Scarlett was upstairs and she was taking drink after drink off the maids trays. She hadn't drank all night because of the plan, but now she was free. Everyone came upstairs and Tommy watched her slowly unfold. Polly and Ada looked at Tommy staring at her. He started to walk over, but Polly grabbed his arm.
"Not now, Thomas. She's a loaded gun waiting to go off." She said.
"I have to fix this, Poll."
"Did you see the heartbreak in her eyes? There is no fixing this. And it's a shame." Polly said and then walked away.
"Well at least you aren't marrying her." Ada said as she looked at him.
He looked away from her. Ada hit him in the arm.
"Only you Tom. Only you could take one of the strongest women and break her." She hissed.
Arthur and John heard that and pulled Ada away. A while later everyone was dancing to a slow song with their partner. Arthur walked up to Scarlett and put out his hand.
"Come on, love. We showed the people in Birmingham that we couldn't dance. It's time to show the people here." He said with a smile.
She smiled and grabbed his hand and then they started dancing.
"Tommy is an idiot." Arthur said.
Scarlett nodded.
"Want me to beat him up?" He asked.
Scarlett laughed.
"I'm not kidding. The man needs a good beating." He joked.
Tommy was dancing with Grace. She was smiling because she was so proud of herself. Arthur dipped Scarlett and she got a glance of the two dancing. He pulled her back up.
"I think I'm gonna throw up." She said as she walked away.
She went to the bathroom and threw up immediately. She flushed the toilet and looked at herself in the mirror as she ate a mint.
"This isn't you, Scar. You know how to make it all stop." She said to herself.
The door busted open.
"Does anyone fucking knock." She yelled without looking up.
She looked up and saw Polly and Ada with cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey.
             "I'm sorry I thought—"
"It's okay, here take this." Polly said as she handed her a cigarette.
She lit it up and French inhaled.
"That was hot." Ada said which made everyone laugh.
              "Are you okay?" Polly asked.
              "Yeah. I'm fine really."
Neither of the girls believed her.
"Well we think she's faking it." Ada said.
Scarlett turned around and leaned against the sink as took a drag. She shook her head.
"I really wouldn't wish that on Tommy. He doesn't deserve to get excited over a baby and then find out there isn't one."
Polly and Ada looked at each other. They both came up and just hugged Scarlett. Scarlett held them tight and then pulled away.
"Alright what did I say about breaking hearts and taking names. Let's go." Scarlett said.
"Everyone has pretty much left. It's just us. Even your father left. He said something about an underground pub." Ada said.
"Well I'd rather drink with just you guys anyway." Scarlett smiled.
She lit another cigarette and then the three women walked out of the bathroom. They were taking shots and partying with Arthur and John as Tommy and Grace watched from the corner. Grace walked to the middle of the room and tapped a ring on her glass and got everyone's attention.
"I would like to make a toast." She said.
"Grace what the fuck are you doing?" Tommy said as he walked up.
"Well we gave them one of our secrets, so we should tell them the other."
"No." He said sternly as he grabbed her arm.
She jerked her arm away and put a smile on her face.
"Tommy and I are engaged!" She said excitedly.
Tommy turned around from the group and had his hands on his head. Everyone was completely stunned and no one said anything.
"We are getting married as soon as we can throw together a wedding back in Birmingham. I don't want to show in my wedding dress."
"Might be a little late there." Scarlett mumbled as she looked at the ground.
Polly and Ada laughed loud once.
"Tommy and I would love for all of you to be there." She finished.
Tommy turned around and saw Scarlett looking at the ground. Her cheeks were flushed and she wasn't blinking. She swallowed hard and looked up at the two and smiled.
"Congratulations to the both of you. A baby and a wedding. A lot of good things coming your way." She said.
Everyone looked at her and then Tommy. Grace was standing there with a smirk. Polly and Ada spoke up and took the attention off of Scarlett. Scarlett looked down and started to breathe hard. She walked out of the living room and Tommy followed her. She was walking and then she picked up her dress and started to move faster.
                   "Scarlett." He yelled.
                   "Leave me alone." She said.
She ran into a room and slammed the door, but he caught it and closed it as he followed her in. She walked to the other side of the room and looked at him.
"Can you please just leave me alone?"
"I came to see how you were feeling and if you were okay." He said.
                  "If I'm okay." She laughed.
"Well I'm not. Are you happy? Is that what you wanted to hear? I am not okay. You say these things to me and make me believe you love me and then I find out you're engaged with a child on the way." She said.
"And you're always looking at me and watching me. Stop looking at me.............God I can't breathe when you look at me like that." She yelled as she turned around.
"I can't fucking breathe." She said quietly. He walked and stood behind her.
"Do you think I want to look at you? Knowing I can't be with you." He said.
She turned around to look at him.
"Do you think I want to be looking at you when I stand at the end of the isle and see you sitting instead of coming down it." He yelled.
"You made this choice, Tom. Not me." She said as she pushed by him.
"I should've killed her months ago, but I didn't. I never killed her because I love you." She yelled.
"Well then I guess you'll just have to stop loving me." He yelled as he turned to her.
She stopped and turned around.
"I can't." She yelled as she got closer to him.
"You're like a fucking drug, Tom. I know you're bad for me, but I'm addicted." She screamed.
He stared into her eyes and then she stepped back.
"You came to see if I was okay. I'm not. I'm not okay. And how I feel? I feel like I never should've stepped foot into Birmingham. There....there's your answer." She said.
She busted out of the door to see the whole family except Grace standing there listening. She didn't look up as she walked away. Tommy looked up to see all of them staring at him. Polly and Ada ran after Scarlett, but they couldn't find her.
Scarlett came in around 6:30 the next morning still in her dress. No one knew where she went. She walked up the stairs hoping no one was awake, but of course they are all early risers. They were all about to come down the stairs until they saw her. They stopped and watched her walk up the stairs in her dress.
"I hope she got laid." Ada said.
Tommy turned around and gave her a death stare.
"What? She deserves it." Ada said as she walked down the steps.
Scarlett went upstairs and soaked in the bathtub. Eventually she got up and got dressed for the day. She walked downstairs and joined everyone.
"Where'd you go last night, love?" John asked.
Scarlett didn't say anything or look up.
"Oh my God you did get laid." Ada smiled trying to lighten the mood.
Tommy slammed his glass on the table, making everyone look up.
                    "It slipped." He lied.
"So was it good?" Ada asked.
Scarlett looked up at Ada and then glanced at Tommy.
"Well was it? Everyone is dying to know if you were with a man last night." Tommy said.
"Yeah I was with a man last night." Scarlett said as she nodded.
Tommy stood up.
"I was with Hunter last night. I sat at his grave the whole fucking night." She raised her voice.
Tommy gave her a look.
"Don't believe me? Go look at my dirty shoes and dress." She yelled.
Just then her father walked in.
"Well are you guys ready to tour our soup kitchen, homeless shelter, and orphanage?" He asked.
"You have those facilities?" Arthur asked.
"Yeah. I'm a ruthless man, but this is my city and there are people that need help. It's my way of giving back." He responded.
He looked at Scarlett.
"Did you send the money over to Mrs. Smith?" He asked.
She nodded.
                      "What money?" Polly asked.
"We started a foundation for soldiers to house, heal, and educate them. We help them find jobs and get back on their feet." She said quietly.
Arthur and John looked up at Tommy who couldn't take his eyes off of Scarlett.
"It was all Scarlett's idea. She named it the Hunter Avery foundation." Al said.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Arthur asked.
"Because I don't want the credit or recognition. That's not why I do it." She said as she stood up.
The Shelby family all looked at each other and then followed them out. They arrived at the soup kitchen and toured it. Scarlett and Al were helping out and talking to the people that come in there. They left and went to the orphanage. Tommy looked on at Scarlett with some children. A little girl who was crying, walked up to her and Scarlett bent down.
"My best friend got adopted. Why did my parents leave me? Why am I not good enough?" She cried.
Scarlett wiped the little girl's tears.
"You are good enough, okay? Never let anyone make you think that you aren't. And your parents...well they are dumb for letting someone so special go."
The little girl gave a small laugh.
"And you are loved. Okay? You are so loved, Jane. You know that I love you to the—."
"Moon and back." The little girl finished.
Scarlett smiled and then pulled the girl in for a hug.
Polly wiped a tear as she looked at Tommy. Scarlett walked up to the two and saw Polly's tears.
"It's people like you that give me hope that Michael and Anna were treated good when they were in an orphanage." Polly said.
Scarlett grabbed Polly's hand and smiled. They all left and made it to the docks. Capone's men loaded everyone's luggage on the boat. The Shelby's were thanking Al for everything.
   Scarlett hugged her father.
"I'll be home soon." She said.
"Go and finish business, so you can come back home." He whispered.
Scarlett nodded.
"Guardati le spalle, vecchio (watch your back old man)." Scarlett laughed as she got on the boat.
Al laughed and pointed at her.
                    "You too." He laughed.
And then they were off. Back to Birmingham.
