April left very quickly, leaving tons of room for May to move in. Piper and I had talked every night from ten until one, catching up on everything but Percy and I. Every day, Percy and I tried coming up with ideas with nothing happening.

"We could do it the same way we told your siblings," Percy suggested one gloomy afternoon.

"Nah, she'd kill us," I disagreed.

"Maybe-" Percy started.

"No." I knew he was trying to bring up the most logical way- tell her. I keep disagreeing because I don't wanna face my best friend.

"But she might listen," Percy persisted.

I laughed a laugh without any humour.

We kept talking but couldn't think of anything that made sense.

"She's coming home in two weeks," Percy said.

"Just talk to her."

"I know."

I got a text from Jason.

Where did you go?

I responded: Im at the beach

With Percy?

Yeah

Ugh

What?

It's so so gross to see you guys together

Oh, shut up

Anyway, dad says that you have to come home for dinner cuz he has something really important that he needs to tell us over dinner.

Great. I'll be home in 15

Kk

Percy drove me home, as I got out, he grabbed my left arm, pulling me back I. The car and smashed his lips into mine.

"Okay, you can go now," he said as we pulled apart.

I walked into the house to see my family sitting around the dining room table, waiting patiently for me.

"Oh Beth, you're home. Good," my dad said as he saw me. "Heather, this is my youngest daughter, Annabeth."

"Hi, Annie," she said, looking disgusted at me.

"Actually, I haven't been called Annie since I was young," I corrected. "My mom used to call me that, but since she died, nobody calls me that. I like Beth, though."

"Oh," Heather looked disapprovingly at me.

I noticed my brother and sister were sitting there, with their mouths wide open.

Apparently, so did my dad, because he gently slapped Jason upside his head.

He jolted back to reality, "So dad, when are you gonna tell us why Heather is here?"

"As soon as we eat," dad responded.

"This looks very good, Fredrick," Heather said as dad put the food on the table.

Once everyone started eating, my dad said,
"Kids, this is Heather Hepburn. My fiancée."
