Third Person POV

Glynda: "Today's match will be between Weiss Schnee and (Y/N) (L/N)."

The students roared in excitement as the two combatants stood at opposite corners of the arena. A timer showed up and started to tick down. When it reached zero the two of them bolted forward.

Glyphs formed around the field and Weiss bounced from one to another. (Y/N) had a bit of trouble keeping eyes on her. She landed a couple slashes, but (Y/N) close lined her. She fell to the ground, but got up quickly.

More glyphs formed around her and shot out ice spikes. (Y/N) shot his fist forward and fire erupted. The spikes were melted in mere seconds. More spikes were sent towards him, but he ducked under them.

(Y/N) did a wide sweeping kicked and sent an arc of fire towards Weiss. She summoned a wall of ice which melt on impact with the fire. A layer of mist erupted within the arena.

Nothing could be seen except for (Y/N)'s flames and Weiss's glyphs. Minutes went by and the buzzer sounded off. The most cleared to reveal Weiss standing over (Y/N) who was on the ground.

Everyone began to clap and cheer for Weiss. She took a step back and extended her hand towards the boy. He lightly slapped it away and stood on his own.

(Y/N): "You got lucky." He turned around and walked out of the arena.

Weiss's POV

I stood there staring at the door he left out of. Why was he always like that? Cold and stubborn. I followed his lead and left through the doors. My teammates were waiting for me on the other side.

Ruby: "That was awesome Weiss!!"

Blake: "Great technique."

Yang: "Yeah, that sure was a heated battle."

We all groaned at her joke and walked down the hall. It was time for lunch so we made our way to the mess hall. Within moments were entered the hall and got our food.

I scanned the room and saw (Y/N) sitting by himself. My feet carried me over to him and I sat down a few feet away. He got up and left out the doors without his food.

I got up and followed him. He picked up the pace, but I kept up with him. He suddenly stopped and turned around.

(Y/N): "Why are you following me?"

Weiss: "Because I wanna talk with you."

(Y/N): "I don't wanna talk."

Weiss: "Why are you the way that you are?!"

(Y/N): "Because I can Ice Queen!!"

He turned around and left with a huff. I was shocked when he called me that. No one has called me that for some time now.

Yang: "For a guy with a fire Semblance he sure is cold." I jumped up a few inches and turned around. Yang stood there with a grin.

Weiss: "How long were you there?"

Yang: "Long enough to see that dumpster fire." She rubbed the ridge of her nose. "Do you even know how to talk to people properly?"

Weiss: "Of course I do." Yang raised an eyebrow and I sighed. "I need to work on it."

Yang: "Yeah ya do. Luckily, my schedule is free." She grabbed me by the arm and dragged me away.

(Y/N)'s POV

Who the hell does she think she is? Always following me around. Trying to force her friendship on me. I don't need friends.

I entered my dorm and landed on my bed with a thud. My back was pressed against the mattress while my eyes stared at the ceiling.

Flashback - 10 Years

My father and I were training outside. He was a brutal teacher and an even more brutal father. I didn't stand a chance against him. He threw me around like a rag doll.

Father: "I can believe a weakling like you is my son."

(Y/N): "I'm not weak!!"

Father: "Then prove it!!"

He swept his leg and sent a wave of fire at me. I ducked under it and sent a plume of flames toward him. He easily dodged it and sent a plume towards me.

It hit me square in the chest and shattered my aura. I fell to my knee and looked up. My father's hand was open with a flame in it. He chucked the fireball at me and it made contact with the left side of my face.

The burning sensation I felt was excruciating. I fell to the ground clutching my face and he walked up to me.

Father: "Let this be a lesson boy. Become stronger."

End of Flashback

My scar began to hurt and my hand clutches it. The pain slowly faded and my hand fell to the bed. That bastard is in prison for what he did to me and mother.

However, I am grateful for one thing. He taught me to never attach myself to things. They only bring weakness. My eyes closed and I drifted off to sleep.

Timeskip - 2 Weeks

Third Person POV

Weiss and (Y/N) sat in their respected seat during class. She wrote down something on a piece of paper and crumpled it up. Her hand tossed it at (Y/N) and he caught it. He opened it and read the message.

'Rooftop 5 o'clock'

He rolled his eyes and burned the paper in his palm. The bell rang which ended classes for the day. (Y/N) went to the training course while Weiss went to her dorm. The training he endured was brutal but effective.

Minutes turned to hours and soon it was five o'clock. (Y/N) scoffed at the clock, but decided he would humor the heiress. He finished his training and head towards the rooftop.

He opened the door and saw Weiss standing near the railings. His feet varied him over to her and she turned around surprised.

Weiss: "I didn't think you would show up."

(Y/N): "Well I'm here. What do you want?"

Weiss: "Can we talk?" The question caught him off guard. Usually she would demand a talk with the boy.

(Y/N): "Why do you wanna talk with me anyways?" He sat down with a huff and Weiss sat across from him.

Weiss: "Because I want to be your friend. You're always by yourself. It must be lonely."

(Y/N): "I don't need friends. Friends are nothing but a weakness."

Weiss: "Friends are not a weakness. They're there to help you. To lift you up when you're down. To be there in the worst times. To be-"

(Y/N): "No they aren't!!" A few tears dripped from his eyes. The boy shook on the spot. "No...."

Weiss moved closer to the boy and hugged him. He wrapped his arms around her and cried into her shoulder.

Weiss: "This is what friends are for."

Timeskip - 3 Months

Three months have transpired since that day. It took some time, but Weiss managed to thaw away the ice around (Y/N). Thanks to this he was able to open up.

His father was wrong after all. Friends were not a weakness. Friends were the strongest thing you could have. Weiss and (Y/N) stood atop the roof of Beacon overseeing the courtyard.

(Y/N): "Hey Weiss."

Weiss: "Yeah?"

(Y/N): "Thank you."

Weiss: "For what?"

(Y/N): "For everything."
