"I don't see what's the point in this funeral", Maria scoffed. "I'm glad he's gone."
Maria turned around as crossed her arms to face the small group of people in front of her. As the awkward silence dawned upon her, she slowly removed her lanyard which had her full name and "Hiddenvile Seat" printed on it.
The rest of the small group, who also was part of The Blue Party, took off their lanyards in a similar fashion. Zak, Lola, Allie, first and Kay and Ina followed.
"Now," Maria continued but this time lowering her voice. "We know the real reason why our Party keeps on winning. Now that Knight can't threaten us any more we need to expose the truth."
"And get rid of Knight's little minions" Zak added.
Lola chimed in "And we need to get to rid of the Media once and for all. This Party isn't as good as-"
"As good as what? Hm?"
Everyone turned around to see a relatively short man with a stern look on his face. His distinctive voice shocked the small group of fellow members.
An uncomfortable silence fell.
"As good as what? Answer me." John insisted.
Allie, who hadn't spoken since Maria's little speech, began mumbling a few incoherent words.
"I... We.... we... love the policy-"
"Shut it woman. Or little girl with speech problems - should I say?"
A look of horror and disgust was painted everyone else's face. Even Maria, a person who never failed to speak her mind, was now too shocked to say anything. Allie froze on the spot, tears began welling in her eyes, although she'd experienced torment like this in the past. She focused her gaze away from the group in fear of appearing weak.
Lola glared at the short man. Clearly being peaceful towards John all these years didn't stop his bullying. Violence did. She then stood up with her fists ready. Allie, who still hadn't recovered from John's insult, pushed Lola away to stop her from starting yet another physical fight.
John chuckled in a theatrical manner, "I was just joking. And yes Our Royal Highness Knight really did come up with these amazing polices. I don't care about your thoughts though. Get out of this room and prepare for the funeral." The group, still shocked at John's comment, stayed exactly where they were seated.
"I said, prepare for the funeral. Now."
The group hurried towards the door with Allie being the most eager to leave first. Maria stopped at the door, turning around to see John staring directly at her as though she murdered someone at that moment. She had a lot of thoughts, a lot of things to say, a lot of insults to throw at the disrespectful swine. But the funeral was nearing, and if she wasn't there on time who knew what the rest of The Blue Party and the Media were going to say. Without hesitation, Maria held up her right hand, her middle finger pointing directly at John before slamming the door with her built up anger and resentment towards the short yet power hungry man.
As the door shut, John began to study the small room. He so desperately needed to fit a camera in that room where the group's newest hideout was. The question was where and when. John knew a lot about his fellow party members - Maria was a loudmouth who was all talk and no walk, Zak was a try hard and Allie was deficient in the brain department and needed to stay in school for a few more years. John never knew about Allie's speech impediment and just assumed she couldn't talk - until he overheard Allie talking to Maria about it in their previous hideout room through his camera.
Knight ordered every room in the Debate House to be filled with hidden cameras, in the event that he had a traitor amongst his team. And John happened to agree with everything Knight said. So when he discovered Allie's speech impediment he had a chance to torment the seemingly incompetent party member.
It appeared John had no thoughts of his own, he echoed Knight's opinions. He even went as far as referring to Knight as "Our Royal Highness". After this, Knight demanded everyone else do the same. Everyone in the party began doing so, apart from that small group.
John had his suspicions of the small group - they stuck together as though the were family. He believed they had rebellious tendencies because they never followed Mr Knight's orders the first time round ; the group needed to be screamed at by John himself. Now Mr Knight was dead John needed to uphold the high standards of The Blue Party. He needed to become the next President of the World to expel the suspicious group of fellow members and take control of the world with his own policies. John Bates, President of the World and Leader of the Blue Party. It had a nice ring to it, he thought.
The only thing stopping him?
Hannah, the Vice President.
John could recall that fateful night. The memory of him dialling Hannah and convincing her of the huge responsibility that lay ahead. It made him shudder in disgust. He never really believed in Hannah. He made it clear to his friends that she wasn't fit for the job. Calling her was just a way of scaring her into quitting.
All 7 billion of us need you right now. The Party needs you. The World needs you.
He remembered ending the call first. It seemed like he did his job. He won. Hannah didn't really want this. And now he was sure the Presidency had his name written all over it.
Our Great President, John Bates.
As he walked around with a boisterous walk the image of his official title was plastered in all continents far away from where he stood. Presidency was always a child's dream. Now it was going to be his reality.
John quickly stopped in this thoughts as he realised he didn't find a good spot to hide his camera. He needed to find one and fast. The funeral was commencing very soon and John needed to be there.
