It was dark, cold, terrifying.
Adelaide felt the chains weighing heavily on her hands. She had a small cell that must have been closer to the middle of the prison because she couldn't see outside at all.
On occasion a dementor would sneak past her cell and suck out pieces of her soul and leave hauntingly. She sat in the corner shivering, staring at the stone wall. She heard screams and yelling. She covered her ears and rocked back in forward.
This couldn't be real, this was a mistake, she was dreaming, something was wrong, she needed to wake up.
She realized she was biting her lip too hard and it began bleeding, the taste of metal filling her mouth.
How long have you been here for? Weeks? Hours? Months?
She couldn't tell. Her mind swarmed with dark thoughts as she became acquainted with her cell. She paced back and forth, thinking of ways to escape. Even if she were to turn into her Animagus, she had no idea where she was or how to escape. The Dementors would find her and completely suck out her soul.
The thought sent a harsh chill down her spine.
What about Draco? He had to kill Dumbledore. She wondered how he was obsessively. It was the only thing keeping her sane, or maybe it was the only thing driving her towards madness.
"Adelaide?" she heard a faint whisper.
Adelaide turned her head quickly, flinching at the sudden attention. She saw, just over the wall of her cell, Lucius Malfoy. He was in the cell next to her.
Adelaide quickly stood up, "Mr. Malfoy?"
He looked exhausted, broken, "How long has it been?"
Adelaide gulped, "When they arrested me it was about 9 months. I don't know how long I've been in here."
He wrinkled his nose in disgust, "9 months in this filth. It's intolerable. Unbearable."
Adelaide whispered, "Draco is a Death Eater."
Lucius paused his complaining and stared at her with wide eyes, he grasped the bars tightly, "H-He is?"
Adelaide nodded slowly.
Lucius let out a cold laugh that echoed cruelly against the walls of the prison, "I knew he was going to someday."
Adelaide scoffed silently, of course the only glimmer of pride he would show for Draco was when he was serving the Dark Lord. She hated Lucius more than ever before. She used to adore him as a child, but he had strayed far from the godfather he used to be.
"I failed him, three times. I have yet to complete a single one of his tasks." she whispered in defeat. She knew that meant she was dead if she ever escaped this hell hole.
Lucius stared at her nervously, "I'm sure if we escape, we can still be of use to the Dark Lord. We'll restore our power back in society. It will be a tiny blip in history that no one remembers. All will be as it was."
Adelaide continued to stare at the stone wall. Her hair that was usually always kept tame and smooth was disheveled and knotted. Her complexion had turned milky white from the lack of sunlight. She could see her bones protruding harshly against her skin. She was always so cold, her thoughts were always so clouded. She never knew how long it had been. She couldn't remember if she had eaten anything since she had been there other than a tiny bit of stale bread that was shoved through her bars from a Dementor that feasted on her soul for a moment before retreating.
Did she eat the piece of bread? She can't remember. It wasn't in her cell, she assumed she ate it. She couldn't remember the last time she slept. Had she slept at all? Certainly she must have, unless she hadn't and that was why she was losing her mind.
