I strolled over to the full-length mirror on our bedroom wall, giving my outfit a long look with a sigh. At this point I was a few weeks into my second trimester, and it was pretty much impossible to hide my growing baby bump anymore. I had expanded my wardrobe to include plenty of loose blouses, but I wasn't even sure if I was really hiding it that well at work anymore. I was finally going to have to tell my boss about it today, because it was almost blatantly obvious at this point, and because I needed to take the afternoon off.
Luke appeared behind me suddenly, arms wrapped around my waist and head rested on top of mine, "Today's the big day."
I smiled at him in the mirror, "I know, I can't believe we're already at this point. Is it just me or is this whole pregnancy thing going by really quickly?"
Luke shook his head and spun me around to face him, "You only think that because you constantly worry about everything that's going to happen over the next few months. For now can we please both just take a breath and appreciate how important today is?"
I let out a deep breath and nodded, feeling another smile fill my face that I didn't even need to force. We had our ultrasound later that day to find out the gender of the baby. We had agreed pretty much as soon as I found out that I was pregnant that we didn't want to wait until the baby was born to find out, because that was a little too much unknown information for both of us.
As he had been doing a lot more frequently lately, Luke pulled the fabric of my shirt tighter around my waist to get another look at my bump. I normally would've been annoyed by it, but every time he did it he got the goofiest grin on his face. It was so cute that I couldn't even pretend to be mad.
He finally met my eyes again and acknowledged the smile I was giving him, "Sorry, I know you must be getting sick of that. I just still can't really believe that's our baby in there."
I just reached up gave him a quick kiss, turning back to my appearance and straightening my shirt again, "Okay, so the plan for later today is to just meet at the doctor's office, right? I know we're both going to be a little too busy today to meet up before that."
Luke nodded, "Yeah, whatever works for you is fine. Personally I know I'll be counting the minutes at work until it's time for the appointment."
I grabbed a jacket out of my closet and laughed lightly, "Well, only six more hours until then."
Luke fell back onto the bed with a loud groan, "God, that's so many hours."
I just chuckled and left him alone in the bedroom with his impatience.

I knocked softly on the door to my boss' office, giving him a small wave as I walked in, "Hi, Grant, I was just hoping we could have a quick chat."
He looked up from his desk and nodded, motioning to the chair in front of him, "Of course, please have a seat."
I sat down tentatively, folding my hands in my lap and clearing my throat, "So, I have been meaning to tell you something, and I just hope you know right off the bat that I don't plan on letting this affect my work too much. But, regardless, I needed to tell you that I'm pregnant."
Grant put his paperwork down and looked at me with furrowed eyebrows, "Oh, that's what this is about? Violet, pretty much everyone in the office has known you're pregnant for a few weeks now."
