"the world is screaming but i only hear, your voice whispering crystal clear" - Chemical Reaction / Secrets

-Luke-

Just a little over a month after Violet and I had gotten in our fight, things were much better. Violet didn't seem nearly as stressed, and we hadn't gotten in any major disagreements about anything to do with the baby since that night. Besides the remaining pregnancy symptoms, she seemed to be in much better spirits about the whole situation.

She was getting ready to go out on a work assignment for the day, even though it was the weekend. I was fine with having the alone time, though, because I had something planned for her. I had gotten up at the same time she did so I could make her a coffee and throw it in a to-go cup for her. I had also tossed a few frozen waffles into the toaster, just for a quick bite before she left.

Violet came out of the bathroom and saw me pouring some coffee into a cup and smiled, "Well, I assume that's decaf, but I'll certainly take it anyway. Thank you."

She reached up to place a quick kiss on my cheek, grabbing the cup out of my hand. I took in her outfit for the day, which was much different from her usual work attire. She was wearing a loose sundress and slip on sneakers, instead of the typical tight pants or jeans with a nice blouse. I furrowed my eyebrows, "Not that I'm one to make fashion judgements, but I don't think I've ever seen you wear that dress to work."

She sighed, "Well, luckily for me today is much less formal than normal work. I'm only wearing the sneakers because my feet hurt like a bitch already and I'm going to have to do plenty of walking to get these shots today. And the dress, well, is just because I'm starting to show just a little bit."

I rolled my eyes, walking over and pulling the dress tighter around her waist to see for myself. Sure enough, there was just a slight bump in her usually slim waist. I smiled to myself, focusing my gaze back on Violet's face, "Well, I think it's cute, and it's barely anything. Besides, what does it matter if you have a little bump at work?"

Violet sipped her coffee, avoiding my gaze, "I still haven't told them about the baby, that's all."

I laughed lightly, "Wow, somehow I'm not even a little bit surprised by that information. You know they're not gonna care at all, you're certainly not the first person in that office to have a kid."

She put her cup down, frowning, "I know I'm not, and I also don't think it'll be a huge deal. But I don't want them to stop considering me for the promotion because of it. I just gotta make sure I keep doing my best work a little longer before I tell them about it."

I just shook my head, pulling her into a loose hug, "Well, they would be crazy to think you can't handle that promotion, or that you don't deserve it. Now get out there today and show them why you do."

Violet smiled up at me, reaching up to plant another quick kiss on my cheek, "And that is why I love you, my personal cheerleader. I should head out."

She started heading to the door, and the waffles popped up out of the toaster. I quickly grabbed one, turning to Violet as she opened the door, "Wait, heads up!"

I tossed one of the warm waffles in her direction, and she quickly threw a hand out to the side to catch it before it fell on the floor, "You're the best."

"Yeah, I know."

An hour or so later, I found myself staring at a large selection of cribs, feeling overwhelmed and a little stressed. Violet and I had been doing a little shopping around online, and had picked out one we thought we wanted to buy. While she was gone today, I thought it would be a good idea to buy the crib and put it together as a surprise, but I was already running into problems.
