"i could look into your eyes until the sun comes up, and we're wrapped in light and life and love" - Afire Love / Ed Sheeran

As soon as we stepped out of the airport doors, Violet gasped, "Oh wow, do you remember Boston being this cold? I know it's been a little while but I don't think I was ever this freezing during Thanksgiving."

I just shook my head, pulling my jacket tighter around me, "Who knows, maybe it's just cold because it's like the crack of dawn right now."

Violet looked over at me and rolled her eyes, pulling her carry-on along behind her, "You told me you were fine with having such an early flight so we could get here before lunch with Sydney and the guys! Besides, the only way either of us could get away with taking this extra time for a weekend trip was if we didn't take yesterday off."

I nodded, throwing my free arm around Violet's shoulders, "I know, you're right. I'm standing my ground about one thing, though. I need at least an hour long nap when we get to the apartment."

She finally smiled up at me, "Well, considering I'm also exhausted and we are a little bit early, I think we can make that happen."

We were back on the east coast for the first time since last Christmas, ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families. Well, at least one of our families. I still wasn't in contact with my dad, and as much as my mom had encouraged me to stop by the house, I knew I had nothing good to say to him. There was no point in ruining everyone else's holiday just because he was a stubborn ass.

Instead, Violet and I had tried to fit two Thanksgiving meals into one day. We were staying at my old apartment just for the night, so we had a small lunch planned with Sydney, Michael, and Calum. After that, we were going to go see Violet's mom at her and Charlie's place to have a real Thanksgiving dinner.

I was excited to see everyone, of course. And I was sure they were going to have dozens of questions about the baby, now that things were starting to really progress. Honestly, though, I was just excited to get through the day so we could start our real vacation. We had planned out a weekend alone for the two of us, further north in New Hampshire. We both figured this may be the last vacation we would get for just the two of us in a while, so we splurged a little bit and got a nice hotel.

Violet groaned, putting a hand on her hip while we stood on the sidewalk, "Could this Uber take any longer? That plane ride was god awful and all I want to do right now is just lay down in a semi-comfortable bed."

As if on cue, a car pulled up to the sidewalk, popping the trunk so we could throw our bags in. The second we sat down in the car my exhaustion hit me all at once, and it took everything in my power not to fall asleep during the ride. After a short while, the car stopped in front of our old apartment building, and we both hopped out and grabbed our bags.

We made our way inside, stepping into the elevator and pressing the button for our old floor. I grinned over at Violet as the elevator started moving, "Feels just like old times, doesn't it?"

She laughed lightly, "Actually, it kind of does. I would really appreciate it, though, if this time we didn't get trapped in the elevator for three hours."

I winced, thinking back on the argument we had when we had first gotten stuck, "Remember how awful we were to each other back then? Like I didn't even know you, and I said the rudest things. I don't know what you ever saw in me."

Violet shrugged, "Honestly, I said some pretty horrible things too, but look where we are now. Engaged and having a baby, who would've thought?"

I just smiled and took her free hand in mine as the elevator doors opened, heading down the hall to my old apartment. I had just barely knocked on the door when it swung open violently, and Sydney pulled Violet into a tight hug. I went to step around them, but was met with the same greeting from Michael, and then Calum.
