No.
I blinked again. She was still there.
Again. Nothing changed.
"It's not her." I whispered.
Hermione was sobbing uncontrollably, Ron hugging her. Fred had her head in his lap, trying to wake her up and George was crying silently, trying to help his brother. Ann was attempting to help Madeleine breathe a few feet away, and Harry just stared blankly at the body. His sister.
He held her hand and tears rolled down his cheeks. I couldn't imagine what was going through his mind.
Snape was still standing a long distance away, and I couldn't read his expression.
And I just sat there, sobbing, as my heart shattered into a million pieces.
"Wake up." I whispered and cupped her cheek. "Wake up!"
She didn't move.
"WAKE UP!" I screamed and nothing happened.
"She's dead." Harry said with a blank stare. We made eye contact and pure anger crossed his face. "SHE'S DEAD CAUSE OF YOU!" He screamed.
I didn't even deny it. I broke her.
"I was so jealous- so fucking jealous. I didn't- I didn't know-" I stumbled over my words as my voice broke. "And I killed her."
Everyone was looking at me. No one said anything as I fell apart. I felt myself being physically torn apart. She was my everything.
After I while Hermione looked up at me, her eyes bloodshot.
"It's not your fault." She whispered.
Everyone shifted their attention to her.
"She's right you know." Harry said with a different tone. "I shouldn't have yelled at you. She's been broken for years, I just never knew it was this bad."
Snape was broken out of his trance and walked over to us. I pulled her body up and held her close to me, sobbing uncontrollably.
"I love you." I cried and felt everyone staring at me but I didn't care. "I never got to tell you cause I was being petty. But I love you. I love you so fucking much." I sobbed into her hair and tried to remember what holding her felt like. Her hair still smelled like vanilla. Her skin was soft like honey. Everything about her was beautiful. She was beautiful.
"She's not dead." Snape said and I looked at him.
"Look at her. Her heart stopped. She's not breathing. She jumped off of the fucking astronomy tower." Harry said angrily.
"She's not dead. She's stunned. In a coma." He said and we all looked at him confused.
"How? That fall would have easily killed someone." Hermione asked, but I saw a bit of hope in her lost eyes.
"When Melody did the same thing, all those years ago, I promised myself it would never happen again." He said. None of us knew who Melody was, but I assume she also jumped off the tower. "So I put a charm on it. It doesn't let you jump with no consequences, that's impossible, but it does make you survive. It absorbs part of the impact and slows the body's functions, putting her into this coma, until who knows when. It's not an exact science and she is only the second person to ever attempt this, the first being Melody."
I couldn't believe it. She would live. I could hold her again. I would be able to fix things.
I looked down at her. Fred had shut her eyes and if I didn't focus too hard, she looked asleep. My lips pressed against her forehead as I cried, praying Snape was right.
"Well come on! We have to get her to the infirmary!" Fred said and picked her up from my lap. I reached my arms out in protest but they were already running to the building. All I could do was follow.
"Help!" Fred yelled when we entered the infirmary. "Someone help!"
It was barely 6 am, no one else was around the castle, but the nurses had to be. Just in case.
"What is it- Oh Merlin!" Madam Pomfrey exclaimed when she saw Lillian. Even though she survived the fall, she didn't look like it. "What happened?!"
I bit the inside of my cheek. No one else would say it, so I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"She jumped off the Astronomy Tower." I whispered. The words seemed to physically hit everyone else as well, and while Snape explained how she was alive, we all shared a silence of pity.
Pomfrey had us lie her down and ushered us out of the room so she could begin the examination and we could come back in about an hour. Everyone slowly shuffled out, but I stood there like a statue. Hermione paused at the door and I could feel her looking at me. Everyone was taking this horribly, but me and Hermione were the most obviously broken.
"Why don't you go get some breakfast dear?" Madam Pomfrey said softly.
"I don't want to leave. I can't leave her again." I said in a shaky voice.
"She's right." Hermione said and tugged at my sleeve a little. "I think everyone else is meeting at the dining hall when it opens."
But I didn't take my eyes off Lilly. She was pale and stiff, breathing so shallow you couldn't tell. She looked dead, and it wasn't for sure that she would make it. I tasted something salty on my cracked lips and realized I was crying again.
"I'll be out in a minute." I whispered and Hermione left me alone. Madam Pomfrey left me alone for a second and went to get her things ready.
I walked over to Lillian and cupped her face gently.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so fucking sorry." I sobbed and stroked her cheek. "Please hold on. P-please."
My legs gave out and I slid to the floor, now holding her hand. Sobs racked through me as I internally yelled at myself. This was my fault. I pushed her over the edge.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
