Chapter Sixteen: Answers

"Yes. I do." I said quietly.
"Well, I will try to explain it quickly and simply." Professor Dumbledor said and I nodded. "As you know, you and your brother Harry were struck by Voldemort. Well, in the process some of his powers were transferred to you two. You got more powers than Harry and different ones. I am not sure why, but I think it just has to do with the way you two are built. When he was struck, his body just took Voldemort's existing abilities that were transferred and kept them as such. Your body took them and on top of that combined them with your own magical abilities to create a spectrum of extra magic that is not yet known to the wizarding world. You're special Lillian, but you have to learn to control it."
I tried to take it all in. How do I know what abilities I have? What do I do with them? Why is it just me?
I knew there was more. I knew there was something else he was hiding. It didn't add up. But I wasn't going to push my luck. For the next few weeks I had to work on my relationship with Harry, and attempt to control whatever is happening inside of me.

Harry didn't bother speaking to me for the rest of the night, but Hermione, Ron, The twins, and Ginny came and sat by me at dinner for a minute to make sure I was okay. They were quickly driven away by Draco.
After dinner I met up with Luna, and we went up to the Astronomy tower to talk and just hang out. After a very, very, very long and stressful day it felt good to relax. I can't believe so much has happened in the past 24 hours, but I assume part of it is I have never seen magic until now. I was raised in the muggle world.
Luna read a book in the moonlight as I sat there, drawing her silently. It was a comfortable silence though, one that you can get lost in forever and never escape from.
"Ladies, what on earth are you doing up here so late!"
But, nothing good ever lasts long.
"What do you mean?" I asked Professor McGonnigal.
Her brows furrowed and she looked at her watch. "It's 2 in the morning. I was up doing a walkthrough and saw a light out here."
My eyes widened as I checked my watch. "Merlin's beard! Luna its been almost 7 hours!" I said in shock.
She realised it too and grabbed her book and lantern.
"I am so sorry Professor. We honestly had no idea. I was drawing and she was reading- we just lost track of time." I explained with a red face. I think all of my teachers hate me.
Professor's face looked conflicted for a minute before she gave us a small smile. "I won't tell if you don't." She said and I let out a breath. "But hurry back to your rooms, and I don't want to hear about you girls staying out past curfew again." She said and we nodded.
"Thank you so much." Luna said and I nodded.
"Yes, thank you." I said and we hurried to our rooms.
I shut the door and let out a breath.
"Lillian Potter! I was worried sick! I was this close to telling Snape you were missing!" Madeleine shrieked and I jumped.
"I'm sorry. I lost track of time." I sighed and threw my bag on my bed.
"Oh my god." Maddie said and put a hand over her mouth. "Were you with Malfoy?"
My eyes went wide and I let out a weird sound between a laugh and a scoff. "No. Lord no. I was with Luna at the astronomy tower, we lost track of time."
She calmed down a little and sat on my bed. "Good. the whole school is talking about you two, and also you and Cedric."
I looked up and remembered what Draco had said about me getting into drama. I needed to keep my name out of things like the Daily Prophet, and I was not off to a good start.
"Why?" I asked slowly.
"Because, Draco doesn't just, like people. He doesn't open up. And he certainly doesn't protect them." She explained. "But you have had a long, stressful day, so lets get some rest, ok?"
I nodded and went to go change in the bathroom. I pulled off my robes and saw what the past two days have done to me. I had bruises and cuts from last night, and my entire right forearm was covered in deep cuts from earlier. My left hand had a bandage on it from and mirror as well.
I quickly threw on a hoodie and joggers, not wanting to look at myself, and finished getting ready for bed.
This was not an ideal start to Hogwarts.
