The next morning I was forced to tell my parents what happened, lest I wanted to be grounded.

I guess I should have known that whether I told them or not, I would be grounded. Going into the forest and falling asleep and getting chased by wolves is not what my parents expected to happen. I didn't expect it to happen myself, but it happened and I got punished.

I looked out the window and at the beautiful day. I shifted my position on my bed to get a better look out my window. I looked at the vibrant blue sky, the green grass and trees just starting to turn brilliant shades of red and orange and yellow.

I sighed and looked at my closed door. I could hear my parents talking downstairs in the living room, probably talking about me.

I glanced back out the window, craving the outside.

Ever since last night, I couldn't get the wolf out of my head. Those eyes that captivated me so. The way he looked at me.

I stared longingly out the window at the woods, and beyond that, the mainland at the edge of the visible ocean. Suddenly a movement caught my eye, just at the edge of my vision.

I looked at the movement, and my heart beat quickened. It was him, the wolf, loping through the forest with smooth strides. I glanced again at my door. Everything was quiet now.

I turned back to the woods, and the wolf was sitting there, looking towards the town. Towards me.

I wanted so desperately to go.

I looked back again at my door.

I'm going to be grounded for eternity now.

I hopped off my bed and climbed out my window, going down a path I had made several years before so that I could escape the house from my bedroom. Luckily my parents had yet to find it. For a while it was difficult getting down two stories, but soon I got the knack of it and I was on the ground within a minute.

I take one last look at my house before setting off towards the wolf.

I hope he is still there.

I could still remember how he looked. Last night it was so dark I was hardly able to see anything. But in the clear day I could see his shiny black fur with white paws and ears. His fluffy tail and his lean but powerful frame.

I made my way across the dock, and sure enough, he was still sitting there, looking at the ocean. He turned his head as I approached, and he took a step back in surprise, showing a few sharp, white teeth.

" Please, wolf. I won't hurt you. You saved my life... I thought we could be friends." I say cautiously, lowering myself to seem less threatening.

The wolf looks at me, his eyes growing more gold as I speak to him. He started purring, much like a cat, to my surprise. He turned around and walked into the forest, pausing to look back at me, his tail swishing.

I followed him into the forest, curious and unafraid with him beside me.

Soon we stop by the large tree from last night. He curled up and laid his head on his paws, looking up at me. I sit down beside him and start rubbing behind his ears, but wince when hid fur comes into contact with the scratches on my hands.

He purrs again, and shifts his position so his head is in my lap. I look at his eyes, still trying to figure out where I have seen them before.

And then it hit me like a truck.

Danny.
