I stared at the gigantic wolf, at its emerald green eyes. They were filled with concern and confusion, unlike the other wolf. I felt confused myself.

Why did this one save me?

Suddenly another wolf appeared beside the big one. It looked so small in comparison to the other, like a toddler next to a grownup. More and more wolves came, surrounding me. They all were equally small, and I realized they were all fully grown. Only the one wolf was significantly larger than the rest.

The larger wolf, which I assumed was male, growled and the other wolves slowly backed away and disappeared into the darkness. I could hear rustling for a few minutes as the wolves dispersed. I felt my heart slowly calming down, and I breathed out shakily.

Soon everything was still, and only the single wolf remained. He didn't move but watched me. A sound came from him, almost like a whimper, and he lowered his head submissively.

I looked at him weirdly.

What the hell is going on?

He lay down on his stomach and gazed at me with those vivid green eyes. I stared back into them, feeling like I had seen eyes like that somewhere before. I searched my brain, but nothing came to mind. It was still trying to compute everything that had happened in the last ten minutes.

A breeze ruffled the trees around us, and he raised his muzzle and sniffed the air. He stood up and turned around and began walking. He stopped moving and glanced back, his tail swishing back and forth.

It's as if he wants me to follow him.

I stood up and brushed off the dust and debris that covered me from head to toe.

I walked over to him, afraid, but he didn't attack me. He simply started walking, so I followed, staying close enough that hopefully the other wolves would leave me alone but I wouldn't anger the wolf by being too close to him.

I followed him out of the forest and onto the bridge. He stopped at the edge of the dock and walked to the side. He watched me walk past, those eerily familiar eyes following me. As I crossed to the other side of the dock I looked back.

The wolf was gone.

Shivers ran down my spine when the wolves howled once more.

I was shaken by that encounter, definitely... But somehow I knew that wolf was my friend now. Well maybe not friend, but we sure weren't enemies.

I heard police sirens when I turned onto my street, and saw two police cars sitting outside my house. I saw my parents standing outside talking with two police officers.

" Mom! Dad!" I shouted and ran to them.

" Autumn! Where have you been? Are you alright? Oh my gosh we've been so worried!" My parents yelled together, embracing me as I got close.

" Stand down men, she is home." I heard a officer say into his radio.

My parents let go and they examined me. " Missy, you have some explaining to do. But I'm glad you're alright." My mom said sternly, though she was looking at me happily.

" Thank you officer. Sorry to bother you at such a time." My dad said as the officers got in their car and drove off. He looked at me sternly.

I followed my parents inside our house, and I went straight to bed, ignoring all my parents questions. I hoped they would forget, but of course they would pester me until they knew everything that happened.

But that could wait until tomorrow.

For now, I needed sleep. I needed to think.
