Suddenly I felt the bond that connected me to Autumn disappear, like a rubber band snapping. I couldn't sense her or feel her presence in any way. It was like she just disappeared off the face of the Earth.

" Autumn!" I screamed desperately, fearing what might have happened.

She can't be dead. No. Please...

I already felt myself crumbling. I ran towards where I last felt her, my panic rising every second.

" Autumn!" I screamed again. I turned a corner and bumped into her. Almost immediately she fell into my arms and starting sobbing uncontrollably. She was shaking badly and seemed all out of sorts.

" Danny... Please..." she whispered between her sobbing. " Don't go..."

" I won't my angel, I won't. I promise. You are my everything, my other half, and I will protect you." I whispered, holding her close. I ran my fingers through my hair and wiped away her tears.

" Awww, how disgusting. I can't believe you got stuck with this... Useless thing." I heard a male voice say with disgust. He stepped out of the shadows, smirking.

" Who are you?" I snarled, feeling Autumn tense up. Whoever he was, she definitely knows him.

" You don't know me? How unfortunate. I am Mr. Red of course, pleased to meet you... Uh..."

" None of your business. Now go away before I rip your face off." I growled.

" Tsk tsk Danny. I thought you would have known better. Don't you want to know where you family is?" Mr. Red smiled, obviously pleased with my reaction to his question.

I tensed, looking at him carefully. I held Autumn and shifted so that she was to my side, farther away from Mr. Red.

" Don't let him fool you. He is my ex, Jake, too." Autumn said quietly.

I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously.

" What she says is true. I am her ex, but I am also Mr. Red. Quite the twist in fate wouldn't you say?" he chuckled evily. " Now, I'd love to stay and chat, but I have a wolf to catch. Unfortunately the Earth Moon wolf is quite the sly one. The only wolf that can separate itself from its owner but still be able to rejoin at any time."

Autumn looked up, eyes wide. She looked so small and delicate. So fragile that she could break at any moment. All I wanted to do is protect her, and I had failed miserably. " Y-you mean... My wolf isn't gone?" she asked, barely audible.

" You would know if it was gone forever. Your link would be completely severed. It's not gone... Not yet. It must be very faint though. And you will just keep getting weaker without her. They feed on your energy and give you strength, but without that strength you become weak. I can already see how it's affecting you. You can't live long without your wolf. Rumors say you can, but it's virtually impossible. The only known case to live without their wolf is..." he paused, looking me up and down. " Me. Now, farewell. Have fun in death my dear. It was nice knowing you." Jake chuckled.
