you're scared of the dark

You melted into your girlfriend's arms as they wrapped around you. Soft little kisses were peppered along your shoulder and you hummed blissfully.

"I know we were supposed to watch some more movies and cuddle tonight, but I'm tired. Think we can do that tomorrow?" She asked, her voice just as soft as the touch of her fingertips moving along your spine.

Your stay was unexpected. You lost track of time tonight and since it's close to midnight now and there's a storm heading in, Solar refused to let you go home and convinced you to stay. You didn't need any convincing though, because once the offer was on the table you agreed happily.

You felt a little nervous about the storm so to make you feel better, Solar had the idea of turning on some movies to watch until you either fell asleep or the storm passed.

But she was so tired she was struggling to even keep her eyes open. You could tell she felt bad about backing out, but you understood and you figured you'd be just fine, thinking the movie she turned on would continue playing until you fell asleep.

"That's okay, I understand."

She mumbled a soft 'I love you' against your neck and left three more little loving kisses against your skin before pulling back. Suddenly, the movie playing in the background stopped abruptly as she turned off the tv. Then, the lights went out and she pulled away to lay on her back and fall asleep, leaving you frightened and wide awake.

You swallowed thickly and tried to convince yourself that you'd be alright. But as Solar began to drift off into a deep slumber and her soft snores started to fill the room, it all sank in that you were awake all alone in the dark and you began to panic.

Your mind was racing and between the thunder in the distance and the anxiety you felt in the pitch-black room left you no choice but to reach over Solar to turn the light back on. She stirred at the sudden brightness and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

She sat up and blinked a few times to adjust to the light before looking for you. Finding you sat up against the headboard with your knees up to your chest as you tried to take deep breaths and control the anxiety you felt.

"Y/n? Are you okay?" She asked as she scooted closer to you and laid her hand over yours. "What's wrong, baby?"

"I-I'm scared of the dark." You confessed and watched her eyes turn sad as she brushed her fingers along your knuckles soothingly. "I know I should've told you. I just don't tell many people about it. Most people don't understand. I thought I'd be okay if you fell asleep because the tv was on and the light was on and even if one went off and the other stayed on, I would've been fine. But then they both went off and you pulled away and... I got scared."

"Oh, y/n, you should've told me. The last thing I want is for you to be uncomfortable or afraid." She said and you watched you nod your head wordlessly before you gazed at your lap. "I won't turn them off tonight. In fact, if it makes you feel more comfortable, we can stay up tonight together."

"With how tired you are?" You chuckled and watched her crack a sad smile. "I'll be okay... if you can leave one of them on."

"Which one? Your choice, my love."

"The tv. I'd like to watch something until I fall asleep." You explained and she handed you the remote with a kiss on your cheek.

She waited for it to turn on and for you to find something you like before she hovered her hand over the switch to turn off the light, gazing over at you like she was waiting for you to give her the okay to turn it off.

"I'm okay." You promised and this time when the light went out, you didn't jump and instead started to relax. Even more so when Solar moved closer to you and hugged you from behind.

"I'm not letting you go tonight." She mumbled as she tangled her legs with yours and kissed across your neck lovingly. "Are you comfortable?"

You just nodded your head and let your eyes close.

"I'm happy."

She brushed her fingers along your stomach and watched you fall asleep, a smile on her face the whole time.

She continued to hold you and let the tv play even after you fell asleep and took a mental note to remember this for the next time you stay with her. Because she loves you so much and knows this night is only the first of many that you'll be spending together.
