she's sick

The empty bed and cold sheets were what woke you from your slumber. You expected to roll into Solar's warm embrace, only to feel the cold sheets against your skin.

You opened your eyes and looked around the room. It was pitch-black and still dark outside. The time on the clock read that it was only after three am. You wanted to just turn over and bury your face in the pillow and go right back to sleep.

But you couldn't help but wonder where Solar was. It's unlike her to leave the bed in the middle of the night.

She usually works so late that she falls into a deep sleep when she gets home and doesn't really wake up until her alarm blares. So it was unusual and a little worrisome to you.

That's when you heard a cough coming from the bathroom. You felt a little worried already and that only seemed to make your mind run away from you further.

You flipped the lamp on and looked toward the bathroom door. The light was on, a crack of light coming from underneath the door. You swung your legs over the bed and padded across the floor to the bathroom door.

You were gonna knock to ask if she wanted you to come in, but as soon as you heard what sounded like her getting sick you didn't even bother asking and just turned the knob to walk right in.

Your heart broke to find that your assumptions were correct. She was knelt on the floor in front of the toilet, her shaky hand holding back her hair as she emptied her poor aching stomach.

You rushed to her and gently grabbed her hair in your hand. She dropped hers onto the floor as her stomach continued to flip agonizingly.

"Shh, Solar," you whispered as she whimpered quietly. "It's alright. I'm sorry I wasn't awake to help you before but I am now. I've got you, so just let it all out."

She continued to get sick, her hands continued to shake. One was on the floor, the other on her lap and occasionally moving to clutch her stomach as it ached almost unbearably.

She was sweating and you pressed your lips to the back of her neck to find that her skin was hot. She had a fever, that was for sure.

Before you came in, she was suffering alone. She was trying to keep quiet so she wouldn't wake you and it was still unbearable.

But she felt better having you there instead of going through it on her own. It was nice to feel comforted.

A few minutes later, her stomach seemed to settle and she was able to start catching her breath. She flushed the toilet before turning around to lean her forehead on your shoulder.

She held onto you, in need of some comfort.

"It's alright, baby. I'm here." You whispered and rubbed her clammy back soothingly. "Are you feeling any better? How long were you sick for before I got in here?"

"A few minutes. But don't worry, I feel a lot better now."

That was so much easier said than done - not worrying. Solar is your whole world and seeing her so sick breaks your heart. You always worry about her and especially now, when she's clearly feeling so awful.

"Okay. Let's get you to bed."

She nodded and tried to quickly brush her teeth before she made it to bed, just desperate to get that taste off her tongue.

You pulled her shirt off and brought a clean one over her head. You pulled the blankets away and covered her with a sheet instead.

You grabbed her a bucket and a glass of water before kissing her head lingeringly and then heading into the bathroom.

You wet down a cloth with some cool water and grabbed some medicine that you hoped would help take away her fever before returning to her side.

"Are you okay?" You asked as you walked back to her side. "Feeling sick at all?"

"No, I'm okay right now."

"Good." You smiled softly and kissed her warm forehead before putting the pills in her hand. She swallowed them back, hoping just as much as you that it'd help take away her fever.

It was making her feel so terrible. Her skin felt a little sticky and she was hot one second then freezing the next.

She wanted relief and she hoped she'd find it in the comfort of your arms and the medicine.

As soon as you laid down, she was rolling into your arms. You laid your head on hers and rubbed her back, causing her to sigh contentedly into your shirt, where she buried her face.

"I've got you." You promised. "Just try to sleep. If you feel sick at all during the night, or anytime, please wake me. I'd much rather lose some sleep than you go through it alone. I love you."

"I love you more." She mumbled tiredly, cracking a tiny sleepy smile when you kissed her head lingeringly and lovingly.

You stared down at her and watched her fall asleep. You spent hours just listening to her breathe and making sure that if she needed you, you were right there for her.

All you could hope was that some sleep would do her some good and she'd wake up feeling a little better.
