I woke up alone in bed, ignoring the screechy voice of that damn two-toned bear as I sat up and rubbed my eyes. Another day had come and gone, unfortunately, and nothing got done. We were all too worn out from the events of this morning, so we agreed to take turns keeping an eye on the broken camera while the rest of us unwound from the experience.
After the trial, Mr. Hinata, Fuyuhiko, Himiko, and Ms. Owari were understandably upset for the rest of the day, so we didn't talk to them unless we had to. Makoto told me that it was something called 'grieving time,' so I just listened to his advice. It's not fair, I didn't get a grieving time at all! But then again, I hated my mother, and I had no choice but to continue my work anyway. But we didn't bother going to the unlocked fifth floor, feeling that staying together at the time was an immediate priority. It's like whiplash for me, I used to always be alone after a class trial.
I spent the afternoon reading in the library, and even though Makoto invited me to go to the sauna, I turned him down. My mood was already ruined by the existence of Maki's damn note, but it was good that she chose not to give details about anything. At least Kanade burned Setsuka's note posthumously before it was read, I owe her for that. But the rest of the day was quiet, and I made another fruit salad for supper before returning to my room.
A new day had come, and it was the day that the final floor had to be investigated. I donned my jacket and boots, then went to the bathroom and looked myself over in the mirror. Yeah, I would need a shower today. I'll have one later. For now, I needed to get to the kitchen and make something nice for myself. I walked out and took the cookbook from off my dorm table, and I headed out.
As I stepped out of my dorm, I immediately noticed that something was off. The camera was fixed, and there was no one stationed to guard it. Last night was supposed to be Fuyuhiko's turn to guard the broken camera. I'll need to talk to him about that, and our chat is not going to be pretty.
It seemed that everybody was slowly coming out of their rooms and heading to the cafeteria, so I began to walk faster to get to the coffeemaker in the kitchen before they could. We had to take turns using it nowadays, instead of using the same pot, all because of the third class trial and fears of poison. As I got into the kitchen first, I chuckled triumphantly as I started making my coffee.
While it was brewing, I opened my cookbook and turned to a random page. This one was for something called 'pizza bites,' and I found it interesting enough to try. After I got my pot of coffee, I worked on the recipe while others came and went from the kitchen. They probably grabbed meager meals of crackers, fruit, yogurt, bread, all simple ingredients. I swear to Master Utsuro, I wish that I could just cook for them again. But I know that's impossible at this point.
It took a while for the pizza bites to cook, but when they did, I happily took them out of the oven, put them on a plate, and brought it all out to the cafeteria table. I could see Ms. Owari staring in jealousy at my feast, compared to her plate of fruits and some hams from the deli counter. I rolled my eyes and snuck her one under the table, and she looked at me the same way I look at Master Utsuro.
When everyone finally had food and began their breakfasts, I scanned the crowd to read the mood. Everyone seemed pretty placid, either masking their emotions or have barely woken up. Himiko in particular seems depressed, and I can't say I blame her. I would be depressed too if the people who cared for me most suddenly died. But alas, no one cares for me. I best not say that aloud, lest I get another lecture from Headmaster Naegi, haha. But there is something I need to say aloud.
Nikei Yomiuri: "Mr. Kuzuryu, weren't you supposed to be on watch last night? The camera is fixed. Care to tell us what that's all about?"
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu: "See, Hajime? Told you someone would notice."
