The next day at school, the hallways and classrooms were swarming with police officers and private investigators.
The first thing I did after I got off the bus was go straight to my locker. I did my combo-45-19-16. Then I opened it on the first try, and I got something unexpected.
When I opened my locker, a letter nicely sealed in an envelope, fell to the ground.
I picked it up and debated whether or not I should open it now, or wait until I got home, and was in the safety of my home. I decided to wait.
I resumed with my classes that day. Though no one was making rude comments to me today, because they were totally distracted by everything going on around them, especially the guys, they were running around the school with fake guns acting as if they were spies. Though it was kind of offensive to some officers, I found it REALLY funny!
Then came lunch and a girl whom I did not recognize sat down next to me. As odd as it was (because I usually sit alone), I didn't object. She started talking to me, trying to start some conversation. She asked my name, and I replied Chloe Johnson. Then I asked her name and she replied Jordan Kelly. She started acting strange though, asking my home address, and my phone numbers. I tried to block the questions saying things like "I just moved and haven't yet memorized my address", and "only my parents have phones". But finally I managed to finish my lunch without giving out too much personal information.
That night when I got home I locked myself in my bedroom, and prepared myself to open the envelope. It was addressed to "Chloe Johnson", written in perfect cursive. But there was no return address.
Finally I worked up the courage to open it. Inside was a letter from Alexa's kidnapper.
It said:
Dear Ms. Johnson,
I have kidnapped your friend Alexa. If you want her to return safely and unharmed, you will do as I say. You will find one letter each day that are attached to your personal belongings. Each letter in which you do not follow the instructions, I will harm Alexa.Sincerely, Anonymous
Chloe debated whether or not she should tell the police, but decided against it considering how complicated it would become once they were involved.
And that was when the nightmare began.
