The next day at school, Jordan arrived in T.A. almost 5 minutes after Chloe. She walked in as if everything was normal, and she had not gone "missing" last night.
Chloe noticed something else about Jordan too though, her tennis shoes were all muddy. This was full-blown proof that it was Jordan who picked up the wristwatch from Chloe's porch.
Evidence:
1. Muddy shoes; Chloe's porch has a large spot which looks like cement, but is in fact mud.
2. Her finger print; if Jordan was there last night, she would have had to pick up the mat to retrieve the watch.Chloe thought about it, maybe she could report this to the police. "She thought about it some more, and figured she probably shouldn't, because if Jordan was doing things for Alexa's kidnapper then he probably wouldn't want her to tell on Jordan, or he might get mad and harm her... Or maybe even.... " Chloe thought. No she shouldn't even think about things like that happening to Alexa- or anyone for that matter.
When she got home she reached under the door mat to get their spare key (her mom wasn't home because she had to go grocery shopping). But what she found was definitely not a key.
What she found was no key but an envelope, addressed to Chloe, written exactly the same as the other two letters. She picked up the envelope, still unable to get inside, and walked all the way to her backyard, and entered through the back garage door. She ran inside to her living room, after locking all the doors. Once this task was completed, she opened the envelope.
The enclosed said:
Dear Ms. Johnson,
I had a trusty assistant pick up the watch, then I turned it in, and told them you stole it. All the cops are looking for you. This will make you untrustworthy if you were to try and tell the cops on me. Also, I would like for you to leave me $50 in cash, under the shrub in front of your porch and leave it. Once you complete this task, check the shrub again exactly 24 hours later, and there will be a surprise waiting for you. And everyday after tomorrow that you wait to put it there I will harm Alexa. The time is ticking, so you better hurry. And be careful, you never know when I'm watching you.Suddenly a chill shot down Chloe's spine, and she got the feeling she wasn't alone.
