Now you see, considering Bucky's history and taking in account everything he has been through, noone holds it against him that he has trust issues. He's been manipulated one too many times for him to just trust every soul he meets. Yet for some odd reason that's exactly what happens when he meets one Peter Parker.
Bucky didn't know when or how it happened but he trusted Peter with he things he would usually only ever trust Steve with. Steve has been his best friend for years and it was easy reconnecting with him but the other Avengers? Not so much. He kept his distance and only ever spoke up when he was asked questions. He speng most of his time by himself, reading or drawing, like he's seen Steve do multiple times. When everyone goes out to eat, Bucky says he'll stay in. When everyone gathers for movie night at the compound, he calls an early night and heads straight to bed. When everyone is at the table in the morning, he usually waits until everyone has finished before quietly stepping into the room.
At first everyone tried including him but seeing that it was no use, they stopped after a while. But then one day young Mr. Parker stepped through the door with the most contagious smile and Bucky's odds changed.
When he was introduced to Peter he felt an odd fondess towards him. He'd see him smile at him and immediately reciprocate it. When Peter was talking with no purpose, he felt himself listening as if he had just explained how the world worked. Sometimes he'd go out of his way and join everyone for dinner just because he heard Parker's voice carrying through the halls to his room.
It was really very odd for him because he just didn't get it. He opened up about certain things that came with his life as an assasin that he only ever told Steve and it didn't scare Bucky as much as he thought it would. Usually he gets bad reactions but Peter just listened and had the most interested look on his face.
For weeks now he'd tried to piece the puzzle together in his head. It was such a weird phenomenon to him, how he could just like the boy so much. For the longest time he played it off with the fact that Peter's still a child but deep down he knew that wasn't the reason. He just hadn't found the real one yet.
The other's noticed it too. How they'd see Bucky around more often or how he'd joke around with the little Spiderling. Steve absolutely loved seeing his friend trusting someone else besides him. He knew he couldn't always be there for his best friend but now he at least had one other friend. It got to the point where Steve would invite Peter over just so he could see Bucky come out of his shell a little bit. The other Avengers didn't say much about it. They just wondered if the boy maybe had other superpowers noone knew about.
It still bugged him though. Bucky spent some sleepless nights over it, because he couldn't accept the fact that he liked anyone besides Steve. Steve was the only one he needed but then why, when the word friendship came up, did he have to think about Peter? It really was odd to him.
But then he figured it out. One day he was rummaging through some of his old pictures and he'd found a couple of him and Steve when they were younger. He smiled, thinking back to when life wasn't as complicated as it was today. He looked at the pictures and his chest filled with pride at how far Steve has become. From an annoyingly stubborn little guy trying to be a soldier, who also put everyone's needs before his own to one of the biggest heros in history. And then as he thought of pre-serum Steve, he finally figured it out.
Peter is just like Steve used to be. Albeit a little happier, with more muscles and actual superhero skills but still. They're the same kind guys. Always wanting to save everyone, always wanting to help the little guy and always fighting for what's right. Now that he knows that, he feels stupid for not figuring it out sooner.
The next times he sees Peter he smiles wider than he probably ever has before. He might've looked a little bit like a psychopath but he didn't care too much. From now on he didn't think about it anymore. He just accepted the fact that him and the spider-guy were friends now, and he appreciated it instead of worrying about it.
