Chapter 21

Not a Hero, but a Fixer

Everyone was in the kitchen eating breakfast, when Orochimaru asked Izuku and Toga to join him in the library when they were done. They asked him what it was about but he just said that they can talk later.

When everyone was done eating, they all gathered in the library together. Orochimaru then proceeded to ask both of them, if he'd ever told them what his job was. This made Izuku and Toga curious, while also making others in the room interested in the conversation.

Orochumaru would leave the base for work now and again, and sometimes wouldn't return for weeks. Izuku and Toga were always busy with something so they never noticed this, but the others did see this but never questioned it, thinking it was just him being weird.

Tsunade then stated "To be honest the whole thing with you atoning for your sins still baffles me. I heard it for the first time from Naruto when he became Hokage, but I never imagined that you would stay immortal, and keep helping others to this day."

Her statement made him snicker a little before saying "There is a lot you don't know about me Tsuna. How I changed from the person I was before, and what kind of an effect my presence has had on this world."

His statement made them all raise their eyebrows in curiosity, especially Sasuke, Itachi and Tsunade who knew his actions and sins, even had some firsthand experience in some of them.

Noticing that his statement piqued their interest, he smiled while saying "That's a story for another time." Then his expression went neutral and his voice became curious while stating "The reason I'm asking you about my job now, is because I got another request for an assignment a few days ago"

After hearing how serious he was, everyone agreed to save the stories for another time. Orochimaru then proceeded to tell them about his job "To be honest, there are some people till this day that believe I'm a myth. They believe that I was overtaken by some kind of serpent magic, giving me the ability to turn myself into a giant serpent."

He laughed to himself before continuing "They aren't wrong, but I still wonder how they gained that knowledge or how this myth started. I still think it was Naruto or Yamato pulling my leg with a joke, but like I said a story for another day"

Not wanting to get sidetracked he then said "There are few people who believe in my existence, and even fewer know it to be true. As civilizations fell and rose over and over again, throughout all my time. I always tried making a contract, with some of the nations that were trying to keep the peace, like the hidden leaf village"

He stopped for a second to let us absorb the information, before continuing "The nations hire me to solve some unsolvable problem, they pay me in different ways, but in the end I always get paid one way or another. I work from behind the scenes, never showing my true identity, I always wear a mask or transform my appearance and always help them from the shadows, never taking credit."

That's when Itachi and Sasuke intervened, and with a shocked voice simultaneously said "You're just like Anbu" which made half of us laugh with Orochimaru joining in on it.

Orochimaru waited for everyone to calm down before stating "Well USA is one of those countries, and they contacted me yesterday with a request for a mission. By the sound of it, it might be a long and hard one. But are you two up for it?" he asked as he looked at Izuku and Toga.

Without a second though both Izuku and Toga jumped up and said "YESSSS" which made everyone else smirk or laugh a bit.

He then says "The folder states that they have had an increasing number of drug problems. They had a huge increase in drugs sold on the street, at parties, in clubs and everywhere else. They've also seen an increase in deaths by overdose. They catch all the smugglers they can, but that didn't reduce the amount of drugs in their country. No matter what they did, the drugs kept coming and the problem kept increasing"
