Lexa POV:I don't know how long we had been there, in that locker room. But after I finally let all my tears out, I pulled away and grabbed my stuff. Just as I was about to walk out the door she called out to me "Lexa" she said and I turned around, looking at her. "Do you want a ride home?" She asked with a small smile. I was hesitant but I nodded my head and I followed her to the parking lot.
I got in the car as she drove me home. It was silent the whole way. She finally pulled up to my house and I sat there looking at it. I could feel the tears forming behind my eyes but I pushed them away this time. I had already cried enough today. I was dreading entering my home, like I always had.
But this time I had someone drop me off, a girl out of anyone and my dad wouldn't allow that. The last time I showed up with a girl, well, it didn't end well for anyone. Costia, that name passed through my head once again. I pushed it out of my head as quickly as it arrived, refocusing on what was behind my door. I knew what would happen to me once I entered the door.
I guess Clarke saw that look on my face and asked me "do you want to stay at my place?" I looked at her. Why would she ask that? Why would she want me there? She doesn't actually care? I don't know. If I go I might only be delaying the inevitable beating that was waiting for me. But I had to take my chances.
I looked at her again and slightly nodded my head. She gave me a light smile and drove away. We arrived at her house, I was bigger than I had imagined. We walked in and it was warm, there was so much light, and I could smell the food her mom was cooking in the kitchen.
Her mom came up to us and I backed off slightly. Clarke saw this and took a small step in front of me greeting her mom. "Hi mom!" She said happily. "Hey sweetie how was school?" She looking from her daughter to me who was standing behind her hesitantly.
"It was good. Mom this is Lexa," Clarke said, motioning her hand to me. "Well hi Lexa, I've never met you before, are you working on a project with Clarke?" Her mom asked me. I didn't know what to say and before I could answer Clarke came to my rescue by saying "yeah mom, we actually have some work to do, we will be upstairs." Clarke said.
She grabbed my arm in an effort to bring me upstairs but I flinched away. My dad always grabbed me like that. I was hesitant but I followed Clarke upstairs anyways, trying not to make a scene.
We got to her room and she shut the door. I looked around her room, it was so clean and homey. I looked at her and said "thank you." She smiled at me and said "no problem, I know my mom likes to ask a lot of questions." I looked down to the floor, gaining my strength.
"That's not what I meant" I said and now she looked at me, confused. "Thank you for helping me at school, and inviting me here, it means a lot" I said nervously. She just looked at me in silence, not knowing how to answer.
Clarke POV:
When we got to my room. "Thank you," she said and I looked up at her. I didn't expect this, not from her. I could tell she doesn't let people in or see the real her. The walls that she had built her so tall I couldn't even see the top.
"Um, " I said breaking the silence. "Feel free to shower, there is a bathroom to the right, I will get a towel and some clean clothes for you." I said. She smiled softly and so I went to go get a towel while she headed to the bathroom.
I went toward the bathroom to give Lexa her towel, the door was cracked and I could see Lexa standing by the mirror, her shirt was off and she was looking at the bruises on her chest. I just sat there, I couldn't look away but I also couldn't walk through the door. Something about her, I'm not sure if it was her emerald green eyes, her long brown hair, or the fact that she was going through so much.
Lexa finally stopped examining the purple spots on her and I finally knocked on the door. I handed her her towel while she concealed herself with the door. Our hands touched at the pass of the towel, our eyes locked before she broke the contact and shut the door.
Lexa POV:
The shower I had at Clarkes house was nice, the water was so warm and I felt oddly safe. I got out of the shower, still looking down at my bruised chest. They were fading and I knew my dad was just itching to give me new ones. I ran my finger over one before my focus was on the cut on my finger, the cut from the glass.
I know it was wrong and I shouldn't focus on it but I want to feel that feeling again. I couldn't describe it but I felt the need to do it. Not now though, not at someone else's house.
I realized the clothes Clarke left for me were still in her bedroom, so I wrapped the towel around my body, I opened the door checking to make sure her mom couldn't see me before walking to Clarke's room.
She was sitting on her bed when I walked in, she looked up at me in a dazed look. Her blue eyes scanning my towel covered body. "I came to grab the clothes" I said, and she awkwardly stood up handing me the clothes. She turned around offering me the chance to change, so I took it. "It's ok, you can turn around now" I said, as Clarke turned around.
There was an awkward silence surrounding us as we stood there, and that silence was broken by her mom calling us down for dinner. Clarke led the way as I followed behind her nervously to the table.
Her mom motioned us to sit down as she started asking more questions. "So you guys, what project are you working on?" Clarke was stunned by the question, trying to come up with an answer. "It's just some simple math work that our teacher made us work in pairs for" I answered quickly and calmly, earning a surprised look from Clarke. "I really appreciate you letting me stay Mrs. Griffin" she looked satisfied with me and said "please call me Abby" I looked at her and nodded.
Clarke POV:
The rest of dinner went smoothly, well kinda, with the exception of a few more questions from my mom. I never realized how good of a liar Lexa was, the way she put a smile on, the way she lied straight to my mothers face without even hesitating. It was weird. After the dinner was over my mom asked me to stay and clean up so I told Lexa to head up to my room. My mom checked to see if she was out of earshot before speaking "Clarke, what are you doing with her?" She asked suspiciously. "What do you mean?" I replied, asking if I didn't know anything.
"I'm pretty sure you're not working on a project together and I don't want you to jump into things too fast with her, but-" she said and I cut her off "mom, nothing is happening between us, I promise, she's just my friend" and I shot her a reassuring look. She still looked skeptical before telling me one more time "be careful" as I went up stairs to meet Lexa.
