"You are going to be back right?" Clarke asked, entangling their fingers at the door.It had been several months since Lexa told Clarke she was going to be staying with her.
But because Clarke was still in school and Lexa hasn't officially started her new job yet, she has to go back to Polis every once in a while to check in.
"Of course Clarke, I'm not going to miss you graduate," Lexa said, caressing Clarke's cheek with her free hand of the shoulder her bag was hanging on.
Oh, and that's the other thing. Clarke graduates college tomorrow.
"Good," Clarke said with a smile, leaning up on her toes to place a kiss on Lexa's lips.
They had been going back and forth for thirty minutes now. They finally made it to the door after many times clearly pulled her back into her arms in the bedroom.
"I will be back before you know it," Lexa said against the blonde's lips. It was already late in the day. Lexa would drive down and get there later. She would stay the night, check in in the morning and be back. Back just in time to see her girlfriend graduate.
"I know, I just hate sleeping without you," Clarke said softly. She had come to really rely on Lexa's presence and body while she slept. She had been deprived of it for so long that she has formed basically a permanent attachment to her at all times.
"I know, I hate it too. But just think of it this way, whenever we get married, we will have to sleep in different beds before the night of our wedding. This, this is just practice," Lexa said, grinning down at the blonde.
Clarke's smile was so wide. She eagerly cupped Lexa's cheeks and brought her down in a bruising kiss. She smiled into it as she finally pulled away.
Clarke loved that Lexa talked about their future like that. That they were going to be married and happy. It made her heart warm and her whole body just tingle with love.
"Okay, I have to go now," Lexa said and Clarke pouted. Lexa had to be careful. She couldn't take much more of it. She was so tempted to just say 'fuck it' and stay with Clarke. But she knew she had to go and check in on the shelter and workers.
"I will text you when I get there," Lexa said and Clarke nodded her head reluctantly. She let go of Lexa's hand so she could go.
Lexa adjusted her overnight bag on her shoulder before walking out the door, leaving Clarke in the doorway, watching after her.
It broke a small piece of her each time she had to leave Clarke, even if it was just for a day. Even less in this case.
But spending the last 4 years farther away from each other took a toll on her. Constantly leaving Clarke and being without her is probably the hardest she has done.
Lexa dropped her bag, turning around to Clarke. She quickly closed the distance, wrapping her arms around the blonde.
Clarke was slightly taken back by the abrupt motion but quickly sank into the feeling. It was her favorite feeling.
She gripped her tightly as Lexa put her head into her neck and held her close.
"I love you Clarke," Lexa said, moving her head back to look at her, making sure to keep her arms secure around her.
"I love you too," Clarke said back. Placing a long kiss on her lips. This right here, is what both of them would hold onto while they were apart.
The kiss was sweet and heartfelt and left both girls breathless.
"I will see you tomorrow, my little graduate," Lexa said with a big smirk after catching her breath.
"Tomorrow," Clarke echoed. Reminding herself that it was so far away yet so close.
