Chapter 1!
The Swing of Things

Bonnie woke up with a start as the sound of her ringtone rang throughout her room. It felt way too early for anyone to be ringing her but that was most likely because she'd only gotten a few hours of sleep. It was currently 8am and Bonnie hadn't managed to fall asleep until 6am.

After debating whether or not she should answer, Bonnie grabbed her phone and took a quick look at the caller ID; it was Sam. Bonnie clicked the answer button almost immediately.

"Bonnie, why can I only see your ear?" Sam asked with a laugh.

Bonnie pulled her phone back and saw the face of her best friend on the screen. "Shit, I'm so tired, I didn't realize you were FaceTiming me."

Sam sighed. "Couldn't get to sleep?"

"Of course not," Bonnie said. "Anyway, what did you call me for?"

"Well... You remember how you and I used to spar with my dad when we were younger?"

"Yeah, Karate, right?"

"Right. Well, my dad is opening his own dojo and needs some students. You want to join?"

"Oh jeez, Sam, do you know how long it's been since I've done Karate?" Bonnie said with a tired laugh.

"Yes, but I also know how much of a fast learner you are, and also, it's not like you'll be learning it for the first time; you'll be relearning it. It won't take you long to get back into the swing of things."

Bonnie sighed. "Is it just going to be us for now, until your dad finds more students?"

"Actually, no. It'll be you, me, and Robby."

Now Bonnie felt even more nervous about having to relearn karate; she didn't want to make a fool out of herself in front of a stranger.

"Robby? Who's Robby?"

"My dad's been training him for months. He fought against..." Sam's face fell and her voice faltered for a bit, but she was quick to recover. "...You know who at the All Valley final. Didn't you watch the fight, don't you remember?"

"Not really, I was a bit too preoccupied wondering where the hell you had disappeared off to. I wasn't really paying attention to the fight."

"Well, he's really nice, quite good looking too. I think you two would get along really well," Sam said with a smirk.

Bonnie rolled her eyes but smiled anyway. "Sam! You're not setting me up with a stranger!"

"But—"

"No buts, Sam. If you want me to join your dad's dojo, you will not be playing matchmaker."

"Oh, come on, you're no fun," Sam pouted.

Bonnie gave her best friend a serious look.

"Okay, fine, I won't set you up. Training is in an hour. I'll come over to yours in half an hour, and we can head over to the dojo together," Sam said and then abruptly hung up before Bonnie could reply.
