Almost an entire week had passed since the attack on UA High School. Hawks had been staying with Misaki while he'd been in town on business for the last two days, but he would be returning to Fukuoka that evening. They had decided to go out for dinner together before he had to head back. Normally they would spend the evenings they were able have together alone, either cooking dinner and watching a movie or just talking about whatever interested them at the time. They got so few opportunities to spend time with each other anymore. It was important to both of them that they make the most of whatever time they did have.
Misaki had let Hawks pick the restaurant, not feeling surprised in the least that he'd picked yakitori. Since they'd been dating, she found herself just leaving all of the food ordering to Hawks. He typically ended up ordering the most food anyway, and she trusted him not to get her anything she wouldn't like. So far, she hadn't been disappointed with any of his choices. Although, she had never really been a very picky eater, just as long as the meals were well balanced. She was usually able to find something suitable on the menus at most places.
Tonight, however, she had barely touched anything on her plate. Her mind was wandering far away from the food in front of her, her attention sharply focused on the report she'd intercepted from the lead police detective on the UA High attack case. The seventy-two arrests they'd made that day had been all they'd ended up with in total, meaning that the two who had escaped from the school were still at large. That fact hadn't been nearly as disturbing as the report she'd read about the villain who had been defeated by All Might.
Hawks reached out to wave a hand in front of her face as he called out to her, "Misa-chan, oooi!"
Misaki blinked, her eyes abruptly coming back into focus as she looked up at him and said, "Huh?"
He tossed her an exasperated look. "You've been totally out of it for almost ten minutes."
She grimaced apologetically. "Sorry..."
Concern flashed across his face and he asked, "Something on your mind?"
She shook her head, looking down and reaching out to twirl one of the skewers on her plate as she somewhat grudgingly replied, "Just work stuff."
He leaned forward and rested his cheek on his hand, cringing slightly as he asked, "Did you mess something up?"
She shot him an indignant glance and immediately shot back, "Of course not!"
He shrugged his shoulders, staring across the table at her with a lazy smirk as he playfully remarked, "Shame."
Misaki's lips turned up in a slight grin and she huffed out a short laugh, looking back down and shaking her head a bit.
Hawks's smirk widened into a satisfied smile. "That's better."
"It's just—" She gasped before cutting herself off, tightening her lips into a thin line as she considered whether or not she should be talking to him about work. She wasn't really sure if she would get in trouble for talking to him about it. The attack itself had been highly publicized and she hadn't expressly been told not to talk to anyone about the case.
Not that she needed to be told that. She had enough sense to know that such things would be frowned upon in her line of work. But it wasn't like she was blabbing to the press or anything. They were sitting in a private room, after all. And Hawks was a hero, so...
'It should be okay, right?' She thought to herself warily.
Her tone was low and somewhat guarded when she said, "There was a large-scale villain attack on a hero specialized high school recently."
