The sentence repeated in my mind as I walked in the empty streets. The only source was the lamps that lighted the way for me to reach home.
"Ahjusshi, do we need water to feel like we're drowning?" It echoed again. She was smiling as she said it.
A hurt and tired smile, to be exact.
FLASHBACK "Ahjusshi, do we need water to feel like we're drowning?" She asked as a hurt and tired smile plastered across her face.
I was kind of shocked at her sudden question. "It depends I guess?" I answered, unsure with the statement itself. "Why do you ask that?" I asked, chuckling nervously. The girl across me sighed and slumped in her seat and looked down, her hair covering her face.
"It's just," She began. Her voice slightly cracked, startling me as I knew she was crying. Crystal tears streamed down her face and she sniffled. I panicked internally, not knowing what to do. Questions raced in my min but her laughter, full of sorrow, broke me out of it.
"I can't believe it." She dryly laughed as she looked up at me, tears still flowing down.
"I just can't believe that I cried in front of you." She laughed again and started wiping her tears. "What do you mean?" I asked softly. Curiosity grew on me as I leaned forward. She chuckled as she looked at me through puffy eyes.
"You are the first person to see me cry." BACK TO REALITY
"Why did she cry? Did I even say anything offensive?" I mumbled to myself. My curiosity grew even more as she left the café straight after crying in front of me.
Do we need water to feel like we're drowning? I wondered. "Aish, don't overthink Jimin." I muttered to myself. But, how can I not? She just asked me a question then cried then just left me, feeling dumbfounded. I replied in my head.
I sighed and looked up at the moon and smiled.
"Hey moon." I said. "How are you doing up there? Well, I know I'm certainly not fine. " I smiled and skipped my way home.
