chapter xv.
2014
ONCE AGAIN, WINNIE'S EYES FLUTTERED OPEN. Unlike the majority of the times when the White girl had woken up after passing out, Winnie actually recognised where she was. Probably wasn't a good thing seeing as it was the hospital but it was a start.
It took a moment but the memories prior to her blacking out began to pop up in her mind. Taking down SHIELD, the helicarriers being destroyed, Bucky.
A wave of sadness hit her and she thought about him. Winnie knew that he had recognised her, even if it was a vague familiarity, she knew he did. It pained her to think about how much torture he had been through over the decades.
She wished he were here with her but it was his choice to leave and she had to respect that. The only thing she could do was hope that he was doing okay.
She took in a deep breath before sitting up, trying to find any source of how she got here and if there was anyone she knew around. The corner of Winnie's lips turned up slightly when she noticed Natasha sitting in the chair beside her fast asleep.
Seeing her so peaceful made Winnie happy. She knew how hard her life had been, the two had talked about it a lot so to see her like this was truly heartwarming.
She took notice of the fact that she was in a suit and all dressed up but decided to leave it be, Natasha would probably tell her why anyway once she woke up.
Winnie assumed that either her or Sam had found her and Steve and brought them to the hospital - which they oh so desperately needed, especially Steve. What she didn't know was how long she had been out.
She tried to find a phone or something that would let her know where she was but when Winnie did and went to grab it, she was stopped by a hand grabbing her wrist. The White girl turned her head, following where the hand came from to see Natasha looking at her with tired eyes.
"Hey, girl," Natasha smirked.
Winnie grinned back, "Hey."
"How you feeling?" the Romanoff girl asked as she let go of Winnie's wrist and letting out a yawn.
"I'm alright, a little sore in the head but other than that, I'm fine," Winnie explained honestly.
Natasha nodded her head, glad to hear she was alright but she knew the girl was meaning physically, not mentally. Before she could ask her, Winnie began speaking. "What time is it?" she asked.
"Half ten. And before you ask, it's been three days."
Winnie's eyes widened. "Three days?!" she asked, her voice raising a little bit. Natasha simply nodded.
The fact that she had been out for so long was a massive surprise. Normally she would only be out for a day tops, nothing more but three days? God, she must've really needed that rest.
"Listen, I gotta go," Natasha said suddenly, standing up and grabbing her bag. "There's a press conference I have to sadly be a part of. It's all has to do with what happened with SHIELD and Barnes and just.. A whole heap of shit."
Winnie let out a laugh at her words, knowing that she hated things like this. "Sorry about all that. Can't help stopping an evil organisation called HYDRA to take over SHIELD."
"Apology not accepted. I request that you buy me take out and we have a girls night once you're finally out of this hospital," Natasha inquired as she made her way to the door.
"I think I could do that," Winnie smirked.
"Good," she said turning to leave but stopped once she was halfway out of the room, "If you're looking for Steve, he's in the room next door. I left Wilson with him to make sure he was there once he woke up so don't worry about him."
