epilogue

JAMES BUCHANAN BARNES FOUND HIMSELF INSIDE THE SMITHSONIAN. After much research, he had figured out who the pair were and was able to find out that there was a whole museum about the two.

So now here he was, trying to get answers as to why they knew him and why he felt like he knew them back.

He wore a cap, trying to hide his face from any sort of cameras so that he wouldn't get caught and a pair of gloves to get rid of his metal arm. If that was seen then it would be obvious that it was him.

There were lots of people going around. Some people on dates, some with their kids, just a lot. So Bucky had to be on his A-game right now. He couldn't let anyone know who he was or spot that he was actually here.

Bucky had been walking around for a short while, a notebook in his hands. He had been going around the museum taking notes, hoping to re-jog his memory, which it was, slightly. He could now remember small things like who the man and the woman were, even his family.

He had the vague feeling that they had been a close family, one that was always there for each other. Bucky remembered the warm feeling of his mother hugging him and his father teaching him how to catch and teasing his sisters.

As much as he wanted to remember, it was painful thinking about all the things he would never get to do or feel again. God, they must all be dead by now, well it had been over seventy years since he had last seen them. He could only imagine how hard it must have been for them to lose him.

He had even learnt a little bit about himself. His name was James but his friends called him Bucky due to his middle name which sounded very much like it. He was a year older than the pair, being born in 1917 and had fought during World War II, which was actually the reason he is the way he is.

All of it felt so... Weird and confusing. Even though it had only been a few memories that had come back, he couldn't help but seem more confused than he did before he had them. He also longed for more of them and it made him frustrated that he wasn't able to get more.

He found out that he had actually been life long friends with the man he had met on his mission. His name was Steve Rogers and they did pretty much everything together, hell, they even shared a battlefield with one another.

Steve was his best friend and the two had been inseparable all through their life. They were basically brothers by the time they were eighteen, the brother that neither of them had.

Of course, Bucky couldn't remember any of this, it was just what he had found out by reading the information boards. He wished he remembered it.

One thing that he couldn't seem to wrap his head around was the woman he met the other day who was called Winnie White. It turned out that the two of them were actually together, romantically. He couldn't believe that someone would voluntarily want to love him.

Bucky pulled out the ring he had in his pocket. It wasn't the first time that he had looked at it. Every time he got, he would just stare at it, begging for something to click in his mind so that he could remember her.

Whenever he looked at the ring or looked at one of the pictures that the museum had of her, the Barnes boy could feel his heart begin to race in his chest and his hands would turn clammy. He knew that it had to with him remembering her subconsciously.

Bucky truly wished he could remember her. He wished he could remember the first time he met her, their first kiss, the moment he knew he loved her, the moment he knew that she was the one, just all of it.

He wished that he could feel her warm embrace around him or the feeling of her lips against his or to even see her smile one last time. The Barnes boy didn't need to remember to know she had such a breath-taking smile.

"Winnie White-Barnes.." he whispered to himself, a sad smile forming on his face. It amazed him how easy it just rolled off his tongue as if it was meant to be said.

The Barnes boy looked up at the picture of Winnie in front of him, his face changing into a determined look. He was going to remember her. It didn't matter how hard it was going to be, he promised himself that he was going to remember the love of his life.

James Buchanan Barnes was going to come back to her.
