chapter ix
1959
"HOW COULD YOU..?" Winnie's voice cracked as she spoke. It felt like someone had reached into her chest and ripped out her heart, a feeling that she had begun to come accustomed to.
"I had to do it," the small blonde smirked. She didn't care that she had just betrayed Winnie, or had been betraying Winnie all this time.
"Why though?"
"It was all part of my mission of course," she giggled, "I had to become the friend of someone from America and help infiltrate the country by getting close to you. It was just a bonus that you turned out to be a very important weapon for America."
Winnie's eyes pricked with tears but she refused to let them fall, she couldn't let her know how hurt she was from her betrayal. "You were my best friend! I thought you cared about me."
"Best friend? Cared? Oh, how you make me laugh, Winnikins," she laughed in her face. "I never cared about you. No, you were simply just a pawn in my little game. The moment I saw you sitting by yourself that afternoon I knew you would be an easy target, and you were might I add."
"We did all that stuff, I told you my secrets, you had a family!" the White girl announced her hands in the air.
The girl let out a throaty laugh, "Your secrets were nothing but things that helped me get closer to my goal and that family? They were just HYDRA agents."
Winnie didn't want to believe it. All the memories and happy moments that they made, all the hugs, all the jokes, all of it. And none of it meant anything to her.
"Poor little, Winnie," she taunted, "Heartbroken, are we? I highly doubt Buckeroo would have wanted this."
The White girl's jaw clenched and her hands balled into a fist in anger. "Don't say his name," she threatened.
"Or what? You gonna kill me?" she suggested, "I know you too well to know that you wouldn't do something like that Winnie White-Barnes, oh. Wait. That's right he died just before you could get married, well disappeared more like."
That was all Winnie needed snap. Her eyes flashed a blood red as she felt her heart rate increase to a million miles a minute.
Using her superstrength, the White girl ripped the ropes around her wrists apart, freeing her hands before charging at the person who betrayed her.
Winnie pushed her to the ground, falling on top of her. She grabbed the knife that was in her pocket, pulling it out and raising it above the girl below her. Winnie hesitated, she didn't want to kill anyone, not again.
"Too scared to kill me? Scared of the person you'd become? You're too much of a wimp to do anything like that anyway, just like you were when we were younger, always getting Bucky to do all the hard work for you, never had any regard for anyone but yourself. It surprises me that Barnes even fell for you, god he must've been a lunatic to do so-"
Her words were cut off by the sharp feeling in her chest. She looked down, only to see that now there was a metallic knife sticking out of it. To be truthfully honest, she didn't expect Winnie to do that.
Winnie pulled the knife back out, the girl letting out a scream at the pain before stabbing it back into her chest. And again. And again.
The White girl watched as the life from her old friend's wash away from her blue eyes, leaving a pit of nothing.
