The next day went by fast and that evening we invited Jesse, Amanda, and Sierrah over for a movie night downstairs.

I had popcorn, chocolate, Twizzlers, candy, and anything you could think of.

Sierrah showed up first and she helped me carry everything downstairs while Coop let Jesse and Amanda in.

"Hey, guys! Thanks for coming!" I smiled once they came downstairs.

"Damn Violet this is awesome." Jesse smiled.

"I know right? Take a seat and eat any of this you want." I said sitting on a bigger loveseat with Coop and I motioned Sierrah over.

"We brought a scary movie," Jesse said.

"Oh geez, I'm not sure I handle that." I laugh.

"That's what I'm here for V.," Coop said.

"Aww, he calls you V. How cute." Sierrah smiled.

"Hey, Jesse next week Cam is coming stateside for a week. I told him he could crash at the apartment but V said he could stay here. So either way, he will be here." Coop said.

"Who's Cam?" Sierrah asked.

"Coop's friend since kindergarten and he's overseas in the air force," I said.

Sierrah leans over and whispers in my ear... "He sounds yummy." She laughs.

I roll my eyes at her and then giggle.

Halfway through this horrible movie my phone rings and it says it's the prison. I show Coop my phone and jump up to go answer it in the Game room.

📞Hello?

📞Detective Violet Reece, please.

📞This is her. How may I help you?

📞I'm sorry to do this over the phone detective but your mother Courtney Reece was stabbed tonight while having dinner.

📞I see and umm is she ok?

📞No ma'am she died by the time medical got to her.

📞Do you know who done it and how many times?

📞She was stabbed five times and it was by her cellmate but Detective we need you to go to the morgue and ID her body. She had you as her next of kin.

📞Thank you I'll be there shortly.

I end the call and walk over to look out the window. I'm not sure why I'm not crying or feel anything but she was still my mother and I guess I need to make arrangements.

Coop walks up behind me and puts his arms around me. "What's wrong V?" He asked.

I turned and looked at him and whispered. "My bio mom was stabbed tonight in prison and died. I need to go ID her body." I said.

"Oh man V I'm sorry." He said.

"Don't be Coop. She hasn't ever been my mom but I don't want to say anything to them." I said.

"I'll send them home then and go with you." He said.

"No let them watch the movie but I'd appreciate you taking me," I said walking back into the theatre room.

Jesse pauses the movie. "Guys we have to run out ok police business but please stay here finish the movie and when you do leave just set the alarm. Not sure how long we will be." I said.

"We will wait for you to come back, Violet. Well, I will anyway." Sierrah said.

"Ok good and if you need something to eat or drink well go get it," I said

I changed my clothes and grabbed my badge and headed out to the police car.

"Coop I really need to go to my dad first. I mean he may want to come and it was his wife." I said.

"Sure I'll take you there first." He said turning around.

📱Hey dad! I need to talk to you. Be at the house in a min.

📱Ok, munchkin the door is unlocked.

When we pull up my heart is beating out of my chest. I'm so freaking nervous to tell him and I'm not sure why.

Dad meets us at the door and embraces me. "What's wrong?" He asked leading us over to the couch.

"I just got a call a little bit ago that umm Courtney was stabbed in prison and died and I have to go ID the body and I wasn't sure if you want to go," I said.

"I hate to hear that and I'll go for you but not for her. She put us in such hell all the time." He said.

Mom walks over and sits beside me and hugs me. "I'm sorry sweet pea." She said kissing my cheek.

"Thanks, mom but I'm good. She was never a mom to me and I guess I'm not sad because I never knew her." I shrugged.

Dad walks back out with his keys and wallet. "I guess I get to ride in the back like I've been arrested?" He laughs.

"Only if you want to dad." I smile as he pulls me in for a hug.

We get in the car and it's silent. Coop puts his hand on my leg and squeezes. That's our way of showing comfort to each other.

I place my hand on top of his and look out the window. Trying to figure out what I'm feeling if anything. I know how she tried to kill mom when she was pregnant with Alex and she was never there for me.

"Munchkin," Dad said bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah, dad?" I ask.

"Just wanted to make sure that you are ok. I know this is awkward and you're probably wondering why you aren't crying but it's ok if you don't. I'm very thankful for Courtney for one reason and that's you. But she was a terrible person but she still didn't deserve to die." He said.

"I know dad thanks! I don't really know how I feel." I said as we pull up.

We all three got on the elevator and headed to the morgue. Coop reaches for my hand and locks his fingers with mine.

When the elevator dinged I took a deep breath and went to find someone to talk to while Dad and Coop stayed in the hallway.
