chapter 16: an average day

Three weeks had passed since Mia and Draco's encounter at the astronomy tower, and life seemed to carry on without a hitch, granted Draco and Mia haven't had a conversation since the events but a few glances were always stolen from on another in lessons, and Mia and Tazzy still haven't attempted to make up with one another (which made sharing a dorm very interesting) However despite all this everything was good. Mias friendships with Harry, Ron and Hermione were flourishing and they were becoming quite a gang, sometimes Mia felt as if she was less of a member with her being a Hufflepuff and joining the group so late but they did everything to make her feel welcome and as if she belonged. Before long she felt as if she had known all three of them for years despite only knowing them for a few short weeks.

"Mia can you give me the ingredients used for the shrinking solution," Professor Snape asked, violently dragging Mia out of her thoughts, "erm to make the shrinking solution you would need: minced daisy roots, peeled shrivelfig, sliced caterpillars, one rat spleen, a dash of leech juice, a splash of cowbane and wormwood." Mia answered with resolute confidence, "very good, 5 points to hufflepuff, maybe next time pay more attention and you might get more house points next time." Mia sighed at her fathers ignorance but continued to slip in and out of her thoughts throughout the lesson, taking notes for their next lesson since they would actually be making the shrinking solution potion. Before she knew it the lesson had ended and it was time to pack up.

The next lesson was history of magic and to say that the lesson dragged on was the understatement of the century. At this point Mia wasn't even sure as to what they were learning about due to professor Binns going on a tangent about a completely unrelated topic that he somehow managed to squeeze into the lesson. No matter how exciting and riveting his story may have been, his way of explaining things made you want to jump off the astronomy tower. He sounded dead, which made sense since after all he was a ghost. Mia looked at her notes, they were supposed to be learning about the goblin rebellion of the 18th century but instead they were learning about professor Binns friendships with various goblins and their 'exciting adventures' which mainly included going out with them for dinner: the definition of exiting. Judging by the various sighs popping up from around the room Mia clearly wasn't the only one bored out of her mind. "I came to lessons to learn, not to hear Binns life story for the seventeenth time," Hermonie commented, making Mia stifle a laugh as Professor Binns temporarily paused to glance at Mia and Hermione before continuing his story. "How are we going to pass our O.W.L.s if he won't even teach the subject?" Hermonie muttered through gritted teeth, "ugh, don't remind me O.W.L.s are a few years away we shouldn't stress about them now." Hemonie shot Mia a look which told Mia that she visibly did not agree with her statement.

By the time break time rolled around it felt as if they had been working for a number of days not a mere two hours, and the worst thing was they had four more lessons to attend to before the weekend finally showed itself. "Mia, oi Mia!" Ron shouted, dragging Mia out of her transe, "oh erm sorry what were you talking about?"

"Honestly did you seriously miss the whole of the conversation?" Hermonie questioned. "No?"

"Unbelievable, we were discussing and canvassing about what Dumbledore's announcement tonight could be."

"Canvassing?" Ron questioned. "Honestly Ronald, canvassing: a verb, to investigate, to inquire or to discuss,"

"Alright human thesaurus,"

"Technically she would be a human dictionary not a thesaurus," Mia added which made Harry and Hermione laugh, yet only gained a scowl from Ron, who soon (after seeing Mia's face) changed his expression to the classic weasley grin. "So what do you think the announcement will be?" Ron expectantly asked, seeming to direct his question at Mia, "well halloween is coming up isn't it?"
