"Wake up Mia!" a familiar voice said. Mia just decided to ignore it, what's the worst that could happen if she had 5 more minutes of sleep? "Mia!" the voice howled once more, Mia could tell her father was becoming more and more aggravated each second she spent in bed, she didn't care. Nothing was going to stop her from getting a few more minutes of beauty sleep, absolutely nothing. "Mia! Up now!" her fathers stated his patience growing thinner and thinner by the second. Mia let out an exasperated sigh of acknowledgement to her father letting him know that she was up...kinda. Suddenly her door burst open "Mia, get up now the train will be arriving soon and I will nor be having you embarrass me this year with your terrible timekeeping!" Mia shot up out of bed; the Hogwarts train here soon? It suddenly dawned on the girl that it was no longer summer, it was the first day back at school! Not that she hasn't spent the entirety of the summer at Hogwarts since she and her father (with the other professors) lived here but it meant time for the school year to start, to start classes once more, to start preparation for her O.W.L.S (Ordinary Wizarding Levels) the extremely important exams she will have in her fifth year at Hogwarts. Mia is still in her third year however this will be the first year that will entirely consist of classes she likes, or hopes she will like at least. "I'm up! I'm up!" Mia quickly said as she attempted to crawl out of bed. Key word attempted. In Mias hast to get up she instantly became tangled with her bed sheets making her fall right out of bed flat on her face. This of course earned her a small singer from her father something she might not hear for a while since her father has a slight reputation amongst the students of Hogwarts and it isn't a good one to say the least. Mia always wished that the other students could see her father like she sees him, however they are all blinded by his extremely large amount of homework he sets to see him for anything more than a right pain in the ars- "are you okay?" her father asked, casting his eyes onto Mia as she still struggled to untangle herself from the bed sheets. "Yes this is exactly what i planned to happen," Mia answered with sarcasm dripping of each and every word. Her father simply rolled his eyes and pulled her up from the sprawled mess of her and the bed sheets and helped her to her feet. "Thanks," Mia said cheerfully, almost as if she was a different person from the sleep deprived bed sheet monster. "Now get your robes on and make your way down the great hall immediately. I'm not having a repeat of last year." Mia remembered the embarrassment of last year and decided that she didn't want that to happen again. You see last year Mia might have slightly over slept which caused her to be late to the sorting ceremony and receive a detention from her head of house, not to mention the overwhelming feeling of embarrassment. "Oh and you might want to sort that out," he gestured to her, which greatly resembled a bird's nest, "will do!" Mia chirped, and with that he was gone.
Mia made her way over to her dresser where she put on some muggle music then began to brush her hair. She always had a fascination with muggles, how they are so similar to wizards yet so oblivious to magic and how it was all around them, all they had to do was look for it. However one thing that she did envy muggles for was their music. Off the top of her head Mia could only name one decent wizarding band (the weird sisters) however muggle bands were a whole different story, she could gush for days about the perfectly executed guitar riffs or the impeccable vocals in every band. From pulp to blur, from oasis to guns 'n' roses every album and single was always perfect. Mia fell into the rhythm of the song while methodical brushing her hair in 4/4 tempo gently humming the words as she went. Once her hair no longer resembled a birds nest and looked more like her normal medium brown hair that contained perfect natural waves she decided to put on her school uniform.
4:30pm the clock displayed. From this Mia worked out that her father must have woke her up at about 4:00pm since it took her quite a while to find out where she last put on her school uniform, not to mention the constant stopping and starting to use her hairbrush as a microphone as she sang her favorite songs. It was usual for Mia to wake up in the afternoon since most nights she spent watching her muggle TV or dancing around her room to her favorite songs. She made her way over to her night stand with her special locket neatly placed on top of it. Inside the locket was a moving photo of her father and late mother hysterically laughing at something they said. Mia had never seen her father this happy in person before, this photo however, was living proof that her father did not in fact have a heart of stone yet one filled with compassion, however that was a long time ago. Mia stared at the photo reminiscing on the good memories her and her father had. "He used to laugh like that all the time you know?" a voice from Mias door said. Mia was jolted from her day dream and looked up to see professor McGonagall standing at the door. "She made him really happy you know?" McGgonagall said sympathetically. "When she-" paused and looked in Mias bright blue eyes, "when your mother died it took a toll on Severus, he became distant for a while. Yet he still cared deeply for you no matter what if it wasn't for you I have no idea what might have happened." McGonagall said solemnly. "If it wasn't for me she would still be alive," Mia stated bluntly. She always felt guilt for her mothers death since she died due to complications with birth, deep down she knew that it wasn't her fault however a voice in the back of her mind convinced her otherwise. "Now that's not true!" McGonagall snapped "if you speak like that again i'll take away 10 points for hufflepuff!" McGonagall huffed, she knew that Mia would do anything for her house and wouldn't sacrifice house points before the year had even begun. "Okay," Mia stated with confidence, she was not about to let this ruin her first day back! "good, " McGonagall said, beaming "do you need help putting on your locket?"
"Oh, yes please if that wouldn't be too much trouble?"
"Not at all, come here," McGonagall swiftly moved her hair to the side with a 'swoosh' and fastened the clasp at the back. "There, all done," McGonagall said while simultaneously smiling. "Thank you professor,"
"No problem, now go to the kitchens for a snack since you missed both breakfast and lunch and make your way to the great hall students will be arriving at 5:00pm, okay?"
"Yes professor!" Mia chirped and with that she left for the kitchens.
She made her way up the steps from the dungeons (since that is where her and her fathers bedrooms were) and to the kitchens. She reached the painting and scanned the wall for the pair which you have to tickle to get inside the kitchens. "There it is!" Mia exclaimed as she found it and proceeded to tickle it. Then the door swung open to the huge kitchen. "Never fails to amaze this place," Mia commented as she smiled to herself. "Hello master Mia!" said a small house elf as they emerged from behind a counter "what can we get for you?" the house elf chimed "Hello Lompy, can i have a chocolate muffin?" Mia questioned the elf "of course master Mia!" Lompy said excitedly, "oh and a coffee as well?" Mia added. "Certainly," the house elf said, remaining it's happy demeanor. Within a few minutes Mia had a warm chocolate muffin in one hand and a piping hot mug of coffee in the other. She quickly ate the muffin and drank the coffee. She gave thanks to the house elf's for their kindness and with that she made her way to the great hall.
"Took you long enough, students will be here soon," Snape said"Sorry professor," Mia said jokingly. Snape simply rolled his eyes and stated "i said there almost here, not here now you can still call me dad if you want," he gave a short smirk before returning to his statement, "For now, since you are not calling me dad in lessons, farther is acceptable however i expect to be addressed as professor Snape while i am teaching, is that clear?" Snape questions. "Yes dad," Mia said as she smiled. "I see you are still wearing your locket," Snape said, almost unable to hide his smile. "Do I ever not?" Mia answered. "No." Snape stated. A comfortable silence rested over the two for a brief moment before Snape began to talk once more. "She would be very proud of you, you know that right?" Snape said endearingly "i know, and if i ever doubt that i know you will make sure i realize that no matter what i do she would be proud." She gave her dad a quick hug before departing to the hufflepuff table eagerly awaiting her friends.
