"The Halloween masquerade ball is a way for the students to get to know one another better and form stronger inter-house relations," professor sprout stated as the whole of Hufflepuff house (from third year and above) congregated for their first scheduled dance lesson. Mia was looking forward to learning to dance, what she was not looking forward to however was being partnered up with the boys from her house. While many of them were pleasing to look at (especially the quidditch team) she could tell that most of them are uncoordinated, very uncoordinated. She was not looking forward to the bruises that will inevitably plague her feet from the amount of times they will be stepped on. "That being said," sprout continued, "it is first and foremost a dance, and i want to show the other houses that we are in fact better than them at dancing, along with every other aspect of school life, and that we are not weak pushovers!" sprout confirmed as if they were charging into battle against the other houses. Professor sprout was one of the most liked professors in the school; she was kind, bubbly and caring. She wasn't overly strict and was clearly the best head of house.

"Now for this specific ball there is a signature dance and that is the tango," she smiled to herself, "and for all you muggle borns no i do not mean the drink, although it is delicious." she commented making part of the hall stifle a laugh. "Now the tango is a Latin dance that originated in the 1880's in the slums and bars of Buenos Aires in Argentina, but it is a lot more well known and sophisticated nowadays." she eyed the room up and down making sure that everyone was listening. "Tango, also referred to as the "Dance of Love", is a passionate and dramatic dance. It's a dialogue between partners, an expressive form of communication through movements." she hushed some of the pockets of giggles that shot up and down the hall before continuing with her mini speech. "Tango is a walking dance, meaning that all the steps are based on walking. When you start learning it, you must first master some basic movements. Don't worry, basic steps are not that difficult to learn. Beginners usually start with 8-Count Basic or simply Tango Basic." Mia looked around her to make sure that she wasn't the only person who understood what professor sprout was talking about, it seemed for the most part that the girls were listening wanting to make sure they got the dance spot on where as the boys on the other hand just wanted to die. Well other than president golden boy Cedric Diggory who seemed to be enjoying the tango lesson so far. "Tango Basic is made of five steps taken to 8 counts of music. The rhythm is slow, slow, quick, quick, slow. The slow steps consume two beats of music and the quick steps one." Everyone looked around the room to see if anyone understood what on earth that meant, and as if reading everyone's minds professor sprout simply said, "don't worry it will make more sense when i demonstrate in a short while." sprout cleared her throat. "Now the kings and queens from each year will start off the dance with them on the dance floor and after the first dance is done everyone is welcome, and encouraged, to join in." she clapped her hands letting the class know she will be begging to teach them the actual steps.

"Now i'm not a dancer myself however i do know how to tango and soon will all of you," she smiled warmly at the sea of Hufflepuff's surrounding her. "Now Tango is danced in a closed position, usually closer than in other dances. The man's left hand is holding the lady's right hand. His right hand is placed on her back, along the bottom of her rib-cage. The lady's left hand is placed on his right shoulder. You always bent your knees. Remember, this dance is the most bent of all the ballroom dances. The lead and follow mirror each other's steps. The lead begins with the left foot, the follow with the right. Walks usually curve gradually to the left." Sprout could tell that the attention span of the class was diverting so she clapped her hands once more so everyone looked at her. "Now for the males the steps are: Step forward with your left foot. Step forward with your right foot passing the left foot. Step forward again with your left foot this time passing the right foot. Step forward and to the right with your right foot Left foot close to your right foot." She demonstrated slowly as she called out each of the movements "now for the ladies, Step back with your right foot. Step back with your left foot passing the right foot. Step back again with your right foot this time passing the left foot. Step back and to the left with your left foot. Right foot close to left foot" She demonstrated once more, did a small bow before going over the steps again but this time a little bit faster.

"Now that you all have that mastered I will demonstrate it with a partner, then with the music, then you will each go and find someone to practice with, of the OPPOSITE gender, if you are non-binary you have my permission to dance with whoever, but don't like to me about your gender identity because i will know. And don't call me homophobic ether it is a stupid rule i know as a lesbian myself this makes me sad, but its all okay as Mr Diggory is going to come and dance with me," she said pointing to Cedric who was clearly bewildered by being called to dance with the professor, but all the same got up from his seat with a smile and walked over to professor sprout.

"Now place your hand on my waist," Sprout said, forcefully grabbing Cerdic's hand and placing it on her waist and he put on a brave smile despite how uncomfortable he must have been. While Mia did feel sorry for him she couldn't help but laugh along with the rest of the class when he danced with Sprout with no music on. While he was very good at the dance, sprout was not and almost stood on his toes many times. "Now Mr Filch please could you put on the music and me and Mr Diggory dance once more showing you how to do it then you will go and find your own partners."

Filch placed the needle down on the record player starting the tango music and Cedric and professor sprout started to dance again. Once they did the basic steps three times through they separated and sprout called for everyone to go and find a partner. Naturally all the girls stood up first and went over to the boys they wanted to dance with, and at first most of the boys stayed seated till one by one they were dragged up by a girl to go and dance with them.

Mia was forced to dance with Zacharias Smith, one of Hufflepuff's quidditch chasers. While he was okay at dancing, Mia thought he had a slight attitude problem, pointing out any time she went wrong when it was actually his fault for stepping on her toes.

After about half an hour of this torture professor sprout signaled that it was the end of the lesson and Mia was so thankful for it. Her toes were battered and bruised from Zacharias Smith's carelessness and she couldn't wait until the ball where she would hopefully have a proper dance partner, that is if someone would ask her. But Mia didn't want just anyone to ask her, no. She had her eyes set on a certain boy from her year group but she feared that so would everyone else.
