The rest of the week went by fairly well. Chase tried to eat somewhat normally and focused on work, school, and controlling himself.

He talked to Max a lot, his feeling for the boy was getting intense. He was confused, he knew he liked Max though.

Clyde was on his mind, not a lot. Chase was actually grateful Clyde hasn't talked to him lately. His heart would get stabbed each time they talked before, it was easier now.

Chase and Max made plans to hang out over the weekend and for Chase to spend the night. Luckily, there wasn't a crying newborn.

Apparently Max's dad found out that the baby wasn't his and his girlfriend had a husband...  The only way he found out was because the husband came to the hospital for his pregnant wife...

Max laughed while telling Chase the story, even though he did feel slightly bad for his dad. He was honestly anxious if his dad would take out any anger on him...

The weekend soon came. Chase came over Friday after school and would leave on Sunday morning, before church.

He finally met Max's friend Skylar, he thought they were really cool and attractive, especially while smoking a cigarette.

Chase was confused which pronouns to use for Skylar when Max mentioned meeting them after school.

He realized Max has never used "she" or "he", it was always "they", but he still wanted to be sure.

He asked Max, "is it he or she or... um..."

"They." Max softly corrected with a smile, opening the school door. Chase tilted his head in confusion. "Skylar goes by they/them pronouns."

Chase suddenly realized, nodding his head in understanding.

It was oddly quiet at Max's house. Devon wasn't over, Mandy was with her, out somewhere. Max's dad was working (as he always did).

Max assured Chase that when Mandy came back home, the chaos would begin. Even if it's just her, it'd be worse with Devon along.

"Do you..." Chase raised a brow in question, humming for the younger boy to continue. "Do you mind if I put erm... m-music on?"

"Don't mind at all."

Max smiles in relief, going over to his large book shelf. He scanned over the CDs.

"Do you know how many are on there?"

Max let out a small, amused scoffed. "I stopped counting after 200, honestly. I've gotten a lot more after." The blonde grabbed a CD case, humming softly in delight. "Okay, th-this one!"

He went to one of the stereos in his room, putting the CD in. The volume wasn't too loud, both figured they'd talk with background music.

"What band is it?"

"Oh, The Fray."

Max plops back onto the bed, staring dreamily at Chase, who was focused on the music and if it sounded familiar.

The dark haired boy then felt eyes on his. His gaze switched from the stereo to Max, smiling softly. Max blinks and panickly looked away, blushing.

"You're cute."

Max hums, too flustered to reply. His was heating up quickly. He was so easily effected by compliments, especially Chase's.

"Can, we just... Date?"

Chase almost wheezed at the blunt question. Max sounded genuinely serious and wantful, he didn't know how else to ask.

He pushed his anxious thoughts aside and asked the question that's been beating at his head.
