"How long are we staying here ?"
"A few days, so make yourself at home."
Russia lifted his suitcase into the closet, before motioning for Germany to pass his over.
"Why did I have to come ?"
"I didn't want to leave you home alone."
He slid the second suitcase back, putting his hands back beside him and staring into the closet for a few seconds. Germany watched.
"And why's that..?"
The heavy silence left a pit in his stomach. Germany had never noticed any cameras or audio recorders in their bedroom, but it wasn't hard to imagine. What if..
"It'd be boring without you."
He closed the closet and stretched out.
"Anyway, I'm going for a shower. "
The tall figure stepped past him, closed the door, interrupted the silence with the sound of a tap running. Germany sat on the edge of the bed awkwardly. Best close his eyes now, before he comes back.
—————
Russia had always struggled to sleep in. Without fail, every morning, he found himself staring at the ceiling and waiting for the sun to rise. It wasn't all bad though. He had someone next to him now.
He turned to his side, hand lifting, feeling over and caressing every inch of the soft skin below it. Germany's face really was beautiful. There was no doubt about that.
"Russ..?"
The country below him mumbled, slowly waking up from his slumber. His eyes blinked open and widened when the hand pinched his cheek.
Blood. Don't forget that, Germany.
"Morning, sleepyhead."
Germany's husky morning voice was really something to wake up to. The hand down slid from his cheek onto the bed, now used as support so russ could lean closer in to admire him.
Germany slowly sat up. It was early in the morning, so the sun hadn't completely risen yet, but small rays of soft light like escaped past the mountains. Lighting up the room they were in together.
"Sleep well ?"
"Mh.. yeah."
Germany slowly got out of bed. The room looked bigger in the light. It'd get Russias hands off of him, he needed to shower now.
"The meeting won't start til midday. Thought you and I could go out for breakfast.
You'll enjoy that, right ?"
—
The cafe wasn't anything special. Russia had insisted they go somewhere unpopular and normal so they wouldn't be bothered.
The shop was decorated in pretty flowers, so well made it was hard to tell if they were real or not. Something both of them marvelled at.
"These kinda look like flowers from the fields me and my siblings would play in as kids."
Russia picked one up. Giving it a sniff before realising it actually was fake.
"Mh, I remember fields of them growing behind my house.."
Germany walked inside with him, not saying anything as his company dropped the pretty plastic onto the floor and stepped over it. But Russia looked so amazed by the tiny cafe, at least, even if he wouldn't respect it, that was more than ger could ask for.
They sat at a table next to the window. Germany stared out of it and shifted in his seat.
"Was your old house anything special ?"
They ordered the same meals.
"Not really, but we lived well."
"We ? What was your family like ?"
Germany stirred his coffee slowly. Focusing on the melting cream instead of his face.
"Normal."
"There must be something. Any childhood friends ? What about your father ?"
He was treading into uneasy territory with those words, but he didn't seem to notice at all.
"Did you have any pets ? Servants ?"
Germany shook his head, taking another small sip of his coffee.
Russia sighed at that and leaned back in his chair. Taking a small glance at Germany's uninterested face before looking up at the ceiling.
"Man. You really are boring."
-
Germany hadn't thought about his family in a while, actually. With everything that was happening now, how could he?
He knew his mother and brother were dead. His father? Up for debate, maybe. Russia didn't need to know something so personal though. They never spoke about family or their childhood. It was something pure, that should remain untainted by their strange relationship.
Russia left for his meeting at midday. He left Germany to wander, knowing his strange new persona would keep him from running off somewhere. It's strange, but Russ wouldn't complain. Germany would let him touch more often, and listen to what he said most of the time. Maybe these three years of being nice to him were paying off. Maybe Germany finally had the motivation to do what he was told.
Still. Best safe than sorry. He'd need to figure out why soon enough. Russia had enough of an idea already.
The meeting finished at sundown. Important topics that Russia seemed uninterested in. He already had an idea of how he wanted to end this war anyway. At least everyone was on the same page as him now.
Germany seemed to press him even more than usual in this new place. Maybe he's anxious because of the new environment, like a stupid dog. Maybe he's trying to feed information to someone else.
"You know, you'd be a lot more fun without that pole up your ass. Why should I tell you anything?"
He yawned between his sentences, laying back into the bed and grabbing Germanys shirt to bring him down with. Russias been tougher than usual now the dog's been more compliant. He really feels like he can push this as far as he wants to.
"You never give me anything in return, right?"
His hands rested on his upper thigh, tracing shapes into his skin with a lopsided smirk. Germany looks green.
"Hey, how about we do something fun tonight? Then I'll tell you whatever you want."
