CHAPTER 3
no such thing as a slow burn

as the months went by you spent a great deal of time training and getting used to the weight of the ODM gear. it was a bit of a hassle at first, but you couldn't exactly ditch all your training lessons because levi would hunt you down and drag you back down to perfect your balance.

he would've been pissed and probably would kept you hidden in the military compound, a desperate attempt to keep you from leaving. you would never tell him, but you were actually looking forward to moving out. although the surgery corps were your family, they were still your bosses so having them around wasn't always fun. you're a teenager surrounded by adults who were far too strict about letting you live freely.

the night of your farewell celebration was a crazy as it gets around the compound. soldiers took turns carrying you on the shoulders, clicking their drinks together while they chanted your name. you smiled brightly the entire night, spending your final night partying and drinking apple juice while everyone else had some sort of alcohol in their system. however, you were able to sneak a few sips of hange's wine without levi catching you. there was a large feast and everyone stuffed their face until they were about near blowing up.

in the morning just moments before you left hange threw you over her back, small tears trickling down her cheeks as she ran away to god knows where. levi had to chase her down and snatch you back. you couldn't stop laughing. these are the moments you would miss the most. everyone said their goodbyes and gifted you with a hug. you were going to miss your family greatly, but you'd be back soon.

now to the current moment.

you were sparring against someone named jean kirstein. before the fight you were hoping to make friends with him, but the moment he saw his opponent was a girl he started acting cocky.

obviously, living with the scouts gave you an opportunity no one else had: to be personally trained by the best of the best so jean wasn't even a fair competitor.
