CHAPTER 8 —stay alive... please
"those of the 34th training corps squad—thomas wagner, nac tias, mylius zeramuski, mina carolina, and eren jaeger all accomplished their duties and were heroically killed in action!"
everyone stood quiet, frozen.
"what..?" you whispered, disbelief written across your face and every step you took towards armin faltered.
everything eren trained for, the amount of harsh training his body took on—it all for nothing. avenging his mother, taking back his hometown, giving his friends a better life—it will never happen.
the grip you held on your blades tightened and you closed your eyes, unable to apprehend that eren was really gone. the memories you two shared swiftly made their way back to you. "this can't be happening," you mumbled under your breath, bringing your hands to your face as you couldn't help but hide your emotional state from the others.
"eren died in my stead. i couldn't do anything. i'm sorry." he spoke in between sobs and clutched onto his pants—any harder and they would've ripped.
"armin, calm down. this isn't the time to be sentimental." her eyes were nearly empty. the weight of the news hit her hard yet no matter how much she hurt, she still continued to fight. mikasa refused to let her pain consume her and even with the ache in her chest, her fighting spirit remained unbroken—if anything, the news of eren's death fueled it. "marco, if we eliminate the titans swarming HQ we can refill our gas tanks and climb the wall, right?"
"yeah that's right but even if it's you there are too many—"
"i can do it. i'm strong—" she turned around, holding her blade in the air, "—stronger than all of you and so, i can kick around those titans. even alone. forget lacking talent, you're all nothing but cowards. it's a real shame. feel free to sit back and watch."
as mikasa lowered her blade, everyone around shouted at her. they called her reckless, insisting that even with her strength, there was no way she could take on all those titans alone. she'd die trying and that didn't bother her. regardless of the people who tried to make her realize the impossible, mikasa flew into the air prepared for battle.
