CHAPTER 10
trial and error

there was a voice, although faint, it sounded familiar. you could hear little snippets of their conversation, but it was difficult to make out who was speaking. by this point, there were multiple voices going back and forth, arguing about something you had no clue about. "reiner—she can't know—get out. i don't want the first thing she sees when she wakes up is you."

every part of your body felt heavy, drained of the strength you desperately needed. how long had you been asleep for? what happened? where are you?

soon after, the sound of the door closing echoed throughout your eyes and there was a rough hand caressing the sides of your face—their touch seemed almost hesitant, and with this you knew who was standing before you.

"they locked jaeger up in some cell."

you lightly chuckled, "sounds like you're celebrating." taking a moment to assess the situation, you forced yourself to examine your battered body. bandages were wrapped tightly around your arms and legs, covering all the deeps cut you obtained during the last battle. some bandages were already stained with fresh blood and your body throbbed in pain, the scar from your previous injury during the cadet training now aggravated and far worse than before. each movement sent sharp jolts throughout your body, reminding you of how lucky you were to live to see the next day.

"someone came back from the dead." annie joked as she handed you a cup of tea with half a toast on the side. you couldn't bring yourself to lift your arms and annie took notice of this, grabbing the toast and gently bringing it up to your lips so there could at least be a bite of food in your system.

"aw. i don't even get a full toast. i could've died y'know." you teased.

"shut up. it was mine anyways."

only a couple bites of the toast were taken before the pain spread up to your jaw. annie, as always, noticed and placed the dish back on the bed side table."shouldn't you be back at training corps or the military polices compound?"
