CHAPTER 6 — celebration
the night of graduation had finally arrived and the air buzzed with a mixture of excitement and nerves. these past three years had been relentless. filled with harsh training yet also amazing days that created beautiful memories.
whispers of last minute encouragements were heard throughout the crowd. cadets exchanged smiles as shadis was busy announcing the 104th training corps top 10 and of course everyone knew that mikasa would land the number one spot.
shadis speech was inspirational and you felt proud of yourself more than anything. these three years of no contact with family was rough, but you're hard work was finally paying off and you knew you'd be reunited with them soon enough. although inspirational, shadis was still scary as hell.
as you looked around, seeing the familiar faces of close friends standing in line next to you, a bittersweet sensation settled over you. these people meant the world to you. they were friends whom you shared every victory and defeat with. they were you support system for any hard time—you had pushed through the hard patches of the training corps. you formed unbreakable bonds that would be cherished till you're last moments.
soon after your gaze landed on eren and it was no surprise to see that he was already looking towards your direction. eren's face grew hot the moment the two of you made eye contact. so he couldn't help but awkwardly wave and you smiled in return, mouthing the words: i'm proud of you.
after the little encounter he turned his head away, focusing on what his future would be. the thought of seeing the outside world—with you specifically made his stomach flutter in a nervous excitement. being able to see the never ending body of saltwater that armin spoke to him and mikasa about as children, trees that stretched so far they could touch the sky, forest filled with unique creatures, mountains covered in grass and had the most beautiful waterfalls hanging off them or the ones covered in white snow.
but, these were exactly the things eren looked forward to. not just experiencing them with you or his friends, but the thrill of finally tasting freedom. the freedom he desperately longed for. —the life he constantly dreamed of for him and his friends was finally in the grasp of his hands.
