It was night.
Well, in an underground room with barely any light, Lily really couldn't tell if it were light or day.
But a couple wolves were going upstairs for a howling ceremony. From what she'd seen, Sundown Island (which is what she learned this group of islands was called) has howling ceremonies around midnight. She followed the other wolves up the stairs, and they all ran out of the pyramid and through the desert, towards a small canyon. When Lily started going up the canyon, a wolf appeared in front of her and said "stop,"
"What?" Lily said. The wolf she was looking at had wings, silver dapples on her back, and tall bat-like ears. She wore a crystal necklace, and a skull on her face.
The strange wolf examined Lily. "You don't look like you're from here..." as she spoke, the howls from the howling ceremony echoed in the distance. Lily was missing howling night, but she didn't really worry about it at this point.
"No, I'm not from here.." Lily said. "I'm from a completely different land. My home got destroyed,"
"Oh, so you're a non-sundown," said the strange wolf.
Non-sundown. The words echoed in Lily's head.
"You're an endangered species. You're not safe here," said the wolf. "I need to get you somewhere safe. Follow me,"
The wolf ran down the hill, and Lily followed. As they ran, the howls continued to echo across the desert. Lily was getting brought to "safety," but something didn't feel right.
The wolf led Lily into the pyramid. They walked on the path, past the Lord Scorchis statue, down the stairs to the prison. The strange wolf led Lily to the nearest cell on the right, opened the door, and said "Get in,"
Lily went into the cell. The wolf shut the door. "There, now you'll be safe," she walked away, leaving Lily alone in the prison cell.
