It had been about an hour and they sat in the waiting room. All they knew is they she had been rushed to surgery. They all sat there impatiently waiting for any news. Adrian was in the restroom stall tears coming out of his eyes. He did not want his brothers to see him like this. In the little time they had been together he had grown to love her.
Adrik paced around making everyone dizzy, Devin told him to sit down telling him that pacing around would not make anything better.
Aleksander had his hands in his face, he wished that he had made time for her sooner. He hoped that everything would come out good and he would take time off work to dedicate to her.
Alexei felt angry with himself and their father. They had been calling him and no answer. Yet another child that he would neglect. He promised that if she came out good then he would try to get good for her. To take his medicine and go to therapy. He knew that he couldn't take back everything he has done, the only thing he could do was to be better if not for him than for her. He saw himself in her, the look in her eyes. Soulless.
Andrey and Anton wanted a chance to be there for her, to be those annoying brothers. Life had not been fair, but all they wanted was for her to make out okay.
A doctor came out with blood all over his scrubs, and when they saw him they felt as if their heart had left their body.
"We are not done with the surgery, I was sent out to give you guys an update. Can I speak to her parents or legal guardians alone please?" Adrik immediately stood up and followed the doctor into an empty hallway.
"Doctor tell me how is she, what's going on." He demanded, making the doctor gulp.
"She has sepsis which caused internal bleeding. We found multiple shards of glass embedded on her skin, we are guessing that's it's been there for years. Her body has been slowly shutting down, there is a low chance that she comes out alive. Not only that but we've found some pretty disturbing things on her body. When we prepared her for surgery we saw scars all over her body. Some are old and some are from about 2 months ago."
"I just got custody of her weeks ago. Do everything you have to do, but my sister is coming out alive. If you'll excuse me I have to make some calls." Adrik's voice came out deadly calm. However, the doctor hadn't told him half of what they found but Adrik was long gone before he could finish what he was saying. It was best if they showed him.
Adrik came back to the waiting room and everyone shot up from their seats, but he ignored them all and motioned Devin to come to him. This upset Alexei because they deserved to know what was going on.
"Adrik tell us what's going on," Alexei yelled as he trailed behind him making people in the hospital turn their heads.
"I'll tell you in a bit I have to handle something first. Go sit down and stop yelling we are in a hospital." Adrik gritted out. Alexei rolled his eyes but ended up going back to sit down. Alexei would never admit it, but he was scared of Adrik. That was the only person he would ever listen to.
After making a few calls he got in touch with Lila and got information about Anastasia's past. He was determined to find the people who did this to Anastasia. More than ever Adrik felt like he was drowning he was so desperate for a breath of fresh air. He grew up quicker than all his siblings, and he knows that to his younger siblings he is their father figure.
Their father tried to make up for a lost time, but the damage had already been done. He just assumed that they were grown up but they still need him around.
The fact that Adrik has been calling him and no answer made him frustrated.
He just wanted her to come out alive, he couldn't go through losing her again. He would be broken beyond repair, he didn't have it in him it was exhausting. Then he thought about his brothers and he couldn't do that to them. He'd seen their faces in the waiting room, he knew that Adrian had cried no matter how much he tried to hide it. He smiled at the sight of Adrian and Anastasia cuddled together in this bed as Salem wedged in the middle of them. I knew that she had managed to wiggle her into Adrian's heart as well as Adrik's.
It was time for Adrik to tell his brothers about her condition. Adrik wasn't going to tell them all of it because he knew that they would go insane. Adrik didn't need that right now.
Adrik stood in the waiting room and cleared his throat, he began to tell them was the doctor had told him but left out the parts of what caused it.
All the brothers remained frozen at the thought of Anastasia not making it out alive.
A few hours later the doctor came out all of the boys jolted up hoping for good news.
"We were able to stabilize her, however, she is in a coma and the chances of her waking up aren't high. You can see her, but I need to talk to her guardian alone, please. One of the nurses can take you to her room." He said and they all nodded. Adrik stayed behind as they all followed the nurse to her room.
