I yelled frantically. I couldn't lose her! I wouldn't be able to live with myself! I had to save her. There was only one place where I knew they would be able to fix her. I ran there as fast as I possibly could.
"Help me! Please! She's dying!" I yelled through the door of the massive building.
Rose ran out of the door in seconds. She was the palace's head maid/nurse. She scanned Jess's body. She held her hand against Jess' forehead and breathed in deeply.
"She is weak. Quickly child, bring her inside." She said hurriedly.
I obeyed and rushed through the doors where there were nurses already there waiting to take care of their next patient. One of them came to me, ready to take her from my arms. I pulled her away. If she really was dying, then I would hold her and still never let go of her.
"Please Dean. She has lost a lot of blood. If you want her to stand a chance, then you have to trust us." The nurse said.
I pulled her face gently up to mine and kissed her on the forehead.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered in her ear and reluctantly handed her limp body over to the nurse. With the extra strength that we had, carrying her was like carrying a feather. The nurse, who I wasn't familiar with, placed her on a bed and raced her down the hall. Several nurses followed. Just before I could follow them down the hall, Rose grabbed my arm and held me back.
"I think it would be best if you stayed here and told me exactly what happened." She said, trying to calm my nerves.
"I didn't mean to hurt her but then Dan-"
"Slow down Dean. I need to understand every detail." She said.
I took three deep breaths and then told her what had happened. I told her about how Daniel, or as Jess called him, the blonde haired boy, had knocked on her door. I told her about noticing him at the tree, even with Jessica trying to distract me with that amazing kiss. I told her the whole story all the way until I ran through the tree into the Fey Realm."I think you need to speak to the council. They'll be glad to know that you're back." She said and walked off towards where they had taken my love. I considered following her but I knew that I definitely needed to talk to the council. I walked down the hall and into the biggest room in this wing of the palace. I knew that most of the council members would be there. As I walked in I saw a smile spread across Ariana's face. Despite being over 600 years old, she was beautiful and angelic with dark, brunette ringlets hanging over her shoulders. She was my favourite of the council members and was more like a mother to me. She was in charge of all things spells and magic. Aleric sat next to her with the same gloomy expression as normal. He had a bald head and tattoos covering his arms and neck. He was in charge of all things fight in this realm so he was buff and tall. Finally, Emane sat on the end, fidgeting with the paint on his chair. His black hair was short and thin and he wore glasses. Everyone thought of him as the brains and rule maker of the group.
"I must speak to you of something." I said, taking a gulp.
I had never failed or refused to complete a mission before.
"While looking for The Definer, I have fallen in love with another. I have sworn to protect her and I failed to do just that." I said.
"What do you mean?" Asked Aleric.
"I lost control with the girl I lo-" I began.
"Yes, yes. We know. We have seen her condition. But you brought The Definer to us. That is all we asked from you." He said.
"What do you mean? You found The Definer? Who is it?" I asked curiously.
"No, you found The Definer. The Definer is Jessica Adams." He stated in a superior voice.
It felt like the room was spinning around me. No. No! This couldn't be happening. Not Jess. Anyone but Jess!
"You didn't know this?" Ariana asked worriedly.
"I sensed power from her but not enough to be The Definer. You must have made a mistake. She is too weak." I said
"No. She is strong. For someone who has sensitive senses like mine, I found it almost unbearable just being in the same room as her." Emane said.
"Can't we just give her some of that forgetting powder stuff and send her home safe and sound?" I asked.
"Firstly, it's amnesia dust and secondly, like Emane said. She is almost unbearable to be in the same room as. She is like a beacon to tevits." Aleric stated, taking any hope I had and squishing it in the dirt.
"They are still around?" I asked.
"Unfortunately, yes and they're numbers are growing rapidly. They are not from the Fey Realm though, so they must have been in hiding in the Human Realm." Ariana said.
"Well, can't we just find another fey with visions that will tell us where they're coming from and why?" I asked desperately.
"The prophecies say that we will need her for other reasons also." Ariana said, losing patience by the second.
Suddenly, a nurse came bursting through the doors. Aleric looked up at him angrily but before he could say anything, the nurse spoke.
"She's awake." She said.My Jess was awake? I ran past her at top speed and sniffed the air. As soon as I caught Jess' scent, I followed it. It took me to a large room. The room was rather bare other than a sink, a small table for two and a bed in the middle. All the nurses but one had backed away from the bed.
"Jessica? Jessica can you hear me?" She repeated over and over.
Jess rubbed her eyes and then stretched her arms out over her head.
"Oh, Em. You won't believe the dream I just had. It was terrifying. I think I died and guess who killed me... and how." She said, her eyes still shut.
I ran to her bedside, pushing the nurse out of the way, and held her hand firmly in mine.
"Jessica... I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I wish you would have listened to me." I said sadly. She opened her beautiful hazel coloured eyes.
"Dean? What are y-" then it hit her. She looked around the room. "Ugh!" She grunted.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you! You shouldn't even be here! It's all my fault! I sho-" Before I could finish, she cupped my face in her hands, looking deep into my eyes.
"It's ok. You didn't mean to. I know that for a fact."
The tears began rolling down my face again. I wasn't usually one to cry but when it came to her, she made my whole body feel weak.
"I know, but if I hadn't of lost co-"
"Shhh." She said gently, pulling my face down to her's.
She kissed me lovingly. I couldn't do it. She wasn't mine anymore. I pulled away and stormed out of the room, the tears pouring down my face more than ever before. I ran out of the building and all the way back through the portal to the human realm. I collapsed on the grass of the meadow. The rain was still pouring down. I looked up into the sky and screamed at the top of my lungs. Each drop that touched my face sent a cool shiver down my back. What had I done?
