(Yui's POV)

Using portals always happened in two steps.

The first one was traveling to 'The Between'. A dark place where all the gates towards new dimensions were kept...and the place where NightCrawlers roamed around.

Whenever us Travellers would open up a certain gate...they would try and enter it as well. Only to destroy its population and feast on their flesh.

You could divide NightCrawlers into two main categories:

1. The Alphas or Bètas who're extremely intelligent. Usually the leaders of their nests.

2. The Omegas. They're as dumb as a rock but still insanely strong. Tho

The second step was navigation. A method where we used our special bracelet to fully enter a certain dimension, explore it and destroy NightCrawlers who invaded it.

...

Ayame, (Y/n) and I had plenty of experience travelling and killing those filthy monsters that infected the worlds.

I usually was the brains of our team while Ayame had great strength and knowledge about weaponary.

And then there was (Y/n)...

She has everything.

Great skill.

A quick thinker.

A strong leader who never gives up.

She was lucky enough to be trained by our sensei 'Seth'.
The big boss of our organization, the best of the best and really handsome according to some thirsty colleagues back home.

Seth is indeed a muscular, tall man that always wears a soft smile on his face. People melted whenever he glanced in their direction with his electric blue eyes and snow-white hair.

On top of that...he absolutely loves to tease.

When (Y/n)'s parents passed away many years ago, Seth took her in and raised her like she was his own.
Providing her food, clothes and a roof over her head.

Everyone praised him for it and he enjoyed every...little...compliment.

Me and Ayame met (Y/n) when we were about 10 years old. At first she seemed like a happy, positive girl who loved to smile and we quickly became friends.

Training together, eating, sleeping and joking around like little kids do.

After 3 years or so...Seth decided to train (Y/n)...personally.

He wanted her to be our next leader.

His own succesor.

(Y/n)'s mood gradually darkened as time went by.

Her smile disappeared and unexplained bruises covered her whole body.

This wasn't right.

We were told to shut up about it as me and Ayame grew weary of sensei's methods.

(Y/n) also didn't want to talk about it and completely isolated herself, throwing herself into her work.

I knew what Seth was doing...

But didn't do anything to stop it.

...

"YUI BEHIND YOU!" Ayame yelled as she kicked another Nightcrawler straight in the face. Long , sharp fangs flew everywhere while the beast screamed in pain.

My eyes widened as black nails suddenly digged into my upper-arm. I turned my head right, seeing another monster sink its filthy teeth into my shoulder.

I clicked my tongue, surpressing the urge to scream.

We can't afford to lure in more NightCrawlers.

In a flash I grabbed my lasergun and pointed it behind my wounded shoulder ,blasting the asshole straight between the eyes.

Bullseye.

Black blood stained my glasses but I didn't clean them yet. After reloading I grabbed my shoulder before inspecting it closely.

The bitemarks aren't too deep but it still needs stitches.

"That's the last one , I guess." Ayame sighed and placed her hands on her hips. I blew some strands of white hair from my face, carefully putting my gun away.

"I was trying to avoid a nest of NightCrawlers ,but luck isn't on our side it would seem." I dryly stated, taking my glasses off and wiping them clean with a handkerchief Ayame once gave me.

Ayame nodded and walked towards me, carefully touching my new bitemark. Her eyebrows furrowed as she rudely flicked my forehead.

"OW?! WHAT'S THAT FOR?!" I yelled and covered my sore forehead with my hand.

"Sh! You might attract a new Nest!" The black haired woman teased ,putting a finger against her lips.

I just pouted and gave her a well-deserved glare before typing some navigation codes into the bracelet.

"Let's enter the portal again and navigate to where (Y/n) is."

"Yui?"

"Hm?" I answered, looking up from the bracelet to see Ayame stare into the abyss of The Between.

"You were thinking about it again... weren't you?"

I blinked a few times and slowly lowered my arm. With a sigh I turned around, observing our portal. It was a beautiful machine as white as fresh fallen snow. The motor started humming softly when I activated it again with the bracelet.

"Yes. I was."

Ayame grunted in slight annoyance, knowing that I still blamed myself for not helping (Y/n) in all those years.

"Yui...stop-"

"829.21.01200.2134.4" I mumbled, cutting her off before she could scold me again. The raven-haired woman shut her mouth immediately, walking to the portal with her head down.

The moment I stepped in after her, I put in the correct coordinates.

The portal formed a mystic deep purple and let out a high-pitched sound before flashing away.

(Time-skip)

When the two women opened their eyes again they found themselves in the middle of the woods out in an open field. The beautiful scenery made them both gasp as they had never seen anything like it before. They heard the songs of birds soaring through the sky and branches of trees creaking in the wind.

The sun was setting while a strong gust of wind made the hairtie around Yui's ponytail loosen. Her soft white hair danced as Ayame grabbed Yui's hand in shock.

"It...aint half-bad this place... I kinda understand why she stayed for so long..." Ayame stuttered, swallowing the lump in her throat.

I just nodded, tightening my grip around her hand.

Ayame always acted like a tough cookie but deep inside she hides a small, sensitive side as well.

I like that about her.

We both stepped forward as I closed the portal behind us, wondering where to look first.

"YUI?! AYAME?!"
