It was early the next morning when Lindsey wrapped an arm around her waist, leaving gentle kisses on her neck as he pulled her in a little closer. "Happy anniversary, baby." He whispered, knowing she was awake once she pressed her backside into him a little more.
"Happy anniversary, sweetie." Her voice was still groggy from a long night of tossing and turning... She couldn't stop thinking.
They hadn't talked about Crosby the rest of the evening, but that didn't mean anything... they both thought about him all night, especially his mother.
"Thirty- six years and you still take my breath away." He had to remind her, even though he was certain she knew that already.
"Oh, yeah?" She mumbled sarcastically, tangling her fingers in between his and then bringing them up to her lips.
"You know you're the most beautiful woman in the world." He kissed her shoulder one last time before resting his head on her pillow.
Stevie smiled softly, growing quiet for a short moment. He always made her feel like the only woman in the world and she knew there was just no other man for her.
"Lindsey?" She turned her head softly, catching him right before he closed his eyes again.
"Hm?" He was half asleep, but if she really wanted to spend the morning talking, that worked too.
"Do you remember what you told me right before our wedding reception?" Stevie was a very sentimental woman- someone who could recount something that happened a million years prior... Kind of like she was getting ready to do. "We were standing in the hallway and I was still so nervous, I couldn't stop laughing." She recalled, a soft giggle escaping her.
It took him a second, but then a grin crept across his face. "I told you that I couldn't wait to see what amazing things we would create with one another." He wasn't sure if those were the exact words he used, after all, they had been drinking the entire morning leading up their wedding.... but he knew it was somewhere along those lines. "I still remember the dress you wore that night." He added, pushing some of her loose curls behind her ear.
She creased a brow, turning around slowly. "My wedding dr-"
"No, the other one." He smirked when she let out a little giggle- she knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Oh, gosh." She sighed, shaking her head a little. "I'm blushing now, Lindsey." she smacked his hand playfully as she started to shift in the sheets, turning on her other side to face him.
The way the early morning sun hit her face brought out all of her wonderful facial features, all the same ones he had fallen in love with many moons earlier. It hadn't been easy- marriage isn't ever easy, but for them, it was worth it. All of the ups and the many downs, they were still on the same side.
"We've had an exciting ride, baby." His hand met her cheek as he stared right into those brown eyes.
"Everything we had to look forward to is already behind us." She bit down on her lower lip, starting to feel very emotional all of a sudden. "We've already had babies, bought a home, done a lot of traveling..." she trailed, shrugging her shoulders as her brows wrinkled. "We're ol-"
"Shh," He cut off when his lips met hers. He didn't want to hear that, because he didn't think they were old.. they were only in their late fifties- they still had a lot to do.
Wrapping her arm around his neck, she laid flat on her back as he hovered over her. "You and me, forever." She mumbled, hand sliding down his chest, though their lips never parted.
His forehead met hers, pausing for a moment to look at her. "Always."
