"How'd you sleep?" Stevie was sitting up in bed, reading glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, and book in her lap as she used one hand to rub Lindsey's head.
"Good, how did you sleep?" He whispered into his pillow, eyes just barely opened, since the morning sun was shining through the white curtains so bright.
Smiling softly, she felt him slip one arm under her legs as he snuggled in closer to her lower half. "I slept good." She had slept like a baby for the last six days- since they'd gotten home from Chicago and she was finally back in her own bed.
"Are we staying in bed all day today?" He had asked her that every morning... and three out of six of those mornings she was all on board.
"I told Becky that I'd go over to play cards today." Stevie's tone wasn't as enthusiastic as it usually was when it came to her friends, and that didn't go unnoticed by her husband.
She had been avoiding everyone since she'd gotten home. She hadn't even gone out the front door, instead she snuck out through the garage so no one would see her when they left the house, which had only happened twice in the last week. She hadn't even gone to the restaurant, instead she just called Janie to check in every morning.
It was odd, but if that's what Stevie felt most comfortable with, Lindsey wasn't going to push her to do things she wasn't ready for.
"That'll be fun." He pressed his lips to her leg gently, head still resting against her hip.
"Mhmm," she hummed as her index finger trailed along the curve of his face. "What are you doing today?" She had heard the boys asking him to go golfing with them the day before since all the kids, even Janie had become quite frequent visitors in their home since they got back.
They were all over each night for dinner, and Stevie's favorite part was that she didn't have to cook, not when Elise and Janie stepped into the kitchen. And it was perfect... almost.
Deep down, Stevie wanted Lucy to be there too. She might not have gotten along well with her, and they may have had issues, but that was still Crosby's wife and the mother of his child... Stevie would have made it work if Lucy had come along with him. She would have pushed everything aside and done what was right for her son, and that new baby. But it didn't work like that, so she was happy with her three boys and her two bonus daughters.
"I'm gonna take those rowdy dudes golfing, I guess." He chuckled a little, glancing up at her just to see that her eyes were still drawn to her book.
Pursing her lips, she raised a brow. "Don't get too competitive, and don't over work yourself, Lindsey." She had been pretty stern with him about the doctors orders.
He was on a diet that consisted of fruit, vegetables, a little bit of meat, nuts, and water... All the man wanted was a beer and a big steak. And she'd also been monitoring everything- his heart rate, his blood pressure and even his temperature.
She would have rather been safe, than sorry.
"Steph..." he let out a defeated sigh, rolling his eyes at himself because he knew, even if he snuck it, somehow she would find out... She was a human lie detector.
Tossing her head back against the headboard, she let out a light giggle. "Oh, what?" She smirked, setting her book on the nightstand to lean down closer to his ear. "I want you to be around for a really long time, Lindsey." She whispered, pushing some of her crazy curls behind her ear so it didn't hit his face. "You have to stay healthy so we can grow really, really, really old together and meet all of our grand-babies." That made him grin instantly as he flipped over to really look up at her.
