What makes love so magical? So special?

Is it the look in the eyes of your lover every time you speak their name?

Is it the way they walk, talk, or how they come across like you have only just met them for the first time, every time?

Or is it all a myth?

This is a story, one like you may have heard before, but with a little twist...

Hi, I'm Haley Clark, I'm 19 years old. I am a college student at the University of California - Berkeley. I am a psychology major with a minor in sociology. Yep, that's right, I am studying people. Sounds crazy right? Turns out it's more popular than one might think.

It's the first semester of my junior year. I have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 classes back-to-back.

But, today is Monday, so one more day to prepare.

I walk into my dorm room after my shift at the restaurant where I work. I am a server at a local restaurant, Benny's Home Cooking.

I see that my roommate/best friend Ashlyn is home. "Hey bitchhhh! I missed you today! I did nothing but sit and watch tv but it's not the same without you."

"Yeah well while you were busy resting your ass, I was busting mine only to make $120 in tips today."

"Haley, that is good money! Considering you barely have any tuition you have to pay!"

My parents didn't have a lot of money so I worked my ass off to get lots of scholarships to help with what the grants did not cover.

"Ok that's fair but I still have to pay a car payment, insurance, food..."

She cut me off, "HALEY chill the fuck out! It's gonna be fine, I will help if you need it."

My parents basically told me that they couldn't help me because they had to take care of my younger brother and sister. Which I totally get, so I just work as much as I possibly can with school and whatnot. Plus, I hate asking others for money.

Ashlyn speaks up after my mini break down, "sooo, are you excited about your classes tomorrow?"

"I guess I'm as excited as one can be when they are starting back to school." I laughed.

"What professors do you have? I heard some of the other psych majors say that their professors were shitty and they had to work extra hard just to get a C." Ashlyn asked, but I still have yet to look.

I grabbed my laptop and opened my schedule for tomorrow.

"I have Mrs. Elizabeth Martinez for my foreign language, Mr. Jared Brand for Human Resources class, and Mr. William Grant for my psychology class."

"I heard Mrs. Martinez is great, not sure about Brand but Mr. Grant is apparently fucking ancient. Almost in the grave ancient."

"Damn. College professors always stay at their jobs for like 100 years before they leave." I said.

Ashlyn agreed. "Alright Ash, it's 11pm and I have an early morning tomorrow, so I'm gonna take a shower and head to bed. I will see you tomorrow."

"Goodnight girl!"

••••••••••••

The next day.

All of my classes are pretty good so far. Foreign language is hard but good, and Human Resources is a breeze. Mr. Brand is super chill, which is awesome. I didn't need that extra stress.

Psychology is the last class for the day.

I double check my schedule to see if I have the right room. I do.

I walk in, sit down, and grab my notebook. I look up at the white board and the professor is turned around, back facing me. He is writing his name on the board, I guess. I look closer and see a different name than on my schedule.

I look to the person to the left of me and ask, "Is this Psychology 101?"

"Yes, it should be."

I look up and see that the professor has turned around, now facing the class.

Suddenly awestruck by his beauty. He had hair long enough to cover his ears but in a beautiful, almost curly way. Eyes almost brown. Dark rings around his eyes that somehow made them even more beautiful. A slight stubble on his jaw. And a perfect smile.

I was sure my mouth was hanging wide open.

He looks at the class and says.

"Welcome to Psychology 101... I am Dr. Gray"
