Nova's POV

It was hard to believe the second week of December had already come.

With the arrival of the new month came lots and lots of snow. The grounds of Hogwarts were now covered in a thick, endless layer of fluffy whiteness. Walking in the breezeways of the castle between classes had become an almost painful experience, what with the brutally frigid air and icy wind that accompanied all of the precipitation. Nevertheless, I loved it. Wintertime was one of my favorite things; I couldn't wait for Christmas break to begin so I could appreciate it with Mum back home.

This morning, I was enjoying a relaxing breakfast with my friends before our day began. I'd made a plate for myself full of pancakes, eggs, and bacon, and even poured a nice cup of hot chocolate to enjoy too. As I ate and sipped on my warm drink, I listened aimlessly to the steady chatter of my friends in my year around me and peacefully watched the snowflakes that fell outside the nearby window.

"What do you think Snape did as a child?" I heard Callie randomly ponder aloud.

I laughed, even though her saying something like that was not out of the ordinary. She always posed some of the weirdest questions that the rest of us just couldn't help but think about and answer, which, in turn, would lead to the most interesting of conversations.

"What? Where the hell did that come from, Cal?" Kol chuckled, as expected. He was always the first to entertain her strange thoughts.

"I mean, it's snowing outside, right. Do you think he ever played in the snow as a kid?" she asked, shoveling a big bite of maple syrup-soaked pancake into her mouth.

"Well, my mind is utterly blank right now trying to imagine Snape having a snowball fight. It's literally physically impossible for me to picture it, so I'd have to say no," he answered with a laugh.

"Did he even have friends to play with in the first place?" Jasper joined in from across the table, cutting into a piece of sausage. "Or siblings, for that matter?"

"Don't think so," shrugged Fred, sipping his tea.

"I've never heard him mention any sort of relationships of his at all," I joined in.

"Me neither, and he's my head of House," Adrian added.

"That's because with his shit personality he has none," George reasoned with snark.

"Well, then it would be rather boring to play in the snow without anyone else, don't you think?" Jasper proposed logically.

"I'd play in the snow by myself," Callie beamed. "Don't need anyone else to have a good time when you can easily make a snowman on your own. Ooh! Or an igloo!"

"You're easily entertained by things, Cal," Fred laughed.

"And you actually enjoy life. I don't think Snape enjoys life enough to play in the snow at all, with a friend or not," George pointed out, tearing at his bacon with his fingers.

"That's a little sad, don't you think?" Isla wondered.

Cedric, sitting beside her, chuckled softly.

"Remember who we're talking about, love."

A couple of weeks ago he'd finally decided to make it official and ask Isla to be his girlfriend. To no one's surprise, she'd jumped at the offer. Since then, he'd become a regular member of our crowd.
