By now, it was 9:00 in the evening and the girls and I had been in our dormitory getting ready together for about a half hour or so.
"I don't know what to wear," I mumbled, digging through my clothes in an attempt to find something that fit my liking. Unfortunately, nothing was catching my eye.
"I knew you'd say that and that is exactly why I brought this." Callie said from behind me, a smirk in her voice.
I turned around and found her holding up a red dress... a short red dress that would no doubt hug my body a little more than usual. It was cute, of course, but it was pretty different than anything else I owned. My style was much more laidback, earthy, and comfortable.
"Callie, where—"
"I may or may not have stolen some of my sister's old clothes she left in her closet at home." Callie cut me off, shrugging simply in response. "She may be a bit pretentious and judge-y but surprisingly she still knew how to party. Weird, I know, you wouldn't expect it of her—"
"Oh, Nov, you have to wear that!" Flora squealed as she looked over at us. She was slipping into a flowing red dress that pooled at her mid-thigh.
"Oh, yes, definitely!" Isla called out from in front of the mirror. She was already set to go in her pink dress but was starting to do her makeup now.
"I dunno, Callie, it's a little..." I trailed off hesitantly, rubbing my neck.
"No, I don't even wanna hear it," Callie said firmly, shaking her head. "Change. Now."
Sighing, I decided I'd indulge her to make her happy. I quickly changed out of my other clothes and gingerly took the dress from her hands, eyeing it warily. I pulled it up and over my body, fixing myself in it before looking up at Callie standing before me.
"Yep, that's definitely what you're wearing tonight." she confirmed, jumping her eyebrows at me. "Come see in the mirror."
She dragged me over in front of the mirror where both Isla and Flora were and the girls immediately squealed at the sight of me.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Flora cheered, shaking my shoulders. "Look at you! Look at us! I think we look incredible, if I do say so myself."
I glanced over myself in the mirror, a little unsure about my appearance at first, but then I gradually kind of grew into the look. The dress was certainly a little short, showing off more of my legs than normal, and highlighted by figure, but I didn't think it was too over the top either. It still had some dignity to it. It was a good mixture for a party.
"Alright, I'll wear it." I said confidently, making the girls around me squeal with delight. I couldn't help but smile a bit myself.
In no time, my friends and I had each figured out hair and makeup and were on the way down the staircase to the party. I could already hear the music playing and the sound of voices and laughter.
It was always a risk having big common room parties at Hogwarts, but hopefully there were going to be people on guard every now and then to make sure no professors would stumble across us.
