Leon's POV
The moment Harper told me her feelings for me under the bright moon, our mate bond strengthened.
She couldn't be away from me for long. An empty feeling would flutter in my heart when we were far away.
The happiness I felt could never be translated into words. It was so much more.
When I was young, before my mother passed, she told me a story about mates. I later discovered it was her story.
My father was a vicious king. He had a vengeance against women after his lover had tried to kill him. He vowed to never marry or mate with anyone.
When he first met my mother, he was fuming. He banished her from the kingdom and told her if she ever came close to him, he would murder her parents. Devastated, confused, and broken, my mother abided by his rules and vanished. For many years, she lived with humans, fearing the king would come after her if she stayed in the supernatural world.
It took her a long time to get over her mate. She had to find herself again and learn to live without her mate. She made a life for herself.
Just as things were looking up—as she was close to getting married to a human—my father stormed into her life like a whirlwind, disrupting everything again. My mother said, to put it simply, he was a tornado, coming to dislodge the foundations of her house.
He pleaded with my mother, begging her to take him back. He claimed he was a fool who couldn't let go of the past and that he would try his hardest to change.
My mother was starstruck yet puzzled. She doubted his words, believing he was only trying to prevent her from happiness.
For several weeks, my father stuck around the town she was in, destroying the new life she had made.
Her fiancé was confused and angry. He kept demanding to know what was going on and if she was having second thoughts about their upcoming wedding.
