Harper's POV
Trauma is a funny thing.
It breaks you down—infecting your mind with poisonous thoughts. It laughs at your misery and makes you focus only on the bad, horrible things about the world.
Leon is a man who sees the world not as it is but as it could be. He believes we are creatures who are born with a clean slate and can become good people. He believes that we can change—that we are not set.
It is one of the main things I have come to admire about him. Unlike me, he sees the good in everything and everyone.
I am a pessimist. To me, everything is in black and white. I believe there are good people and bad people. I don't see how people can change and better themselves.
We are polar opposites. He will always be the good guy, no matter what he's done or gone through. He is the better person in this relationship.
Why did the Moon Goddess pair us together? Other than to laugh in my face, I'm not sure. For so long, I have believed Leon doesn't deserve me. But really, it's the other way around. It always has been. I don't deserve Leon.
I'm the fault. The spanner in the works.
He would never admit it. He would die before saying I was the unworthy one. In his eyes, I am this perfect, celestial being who fixes him. In reality, he is fixing me.
I'm the one who is broken. Leon has repaired himself all by himself. He has evolved for me.
If it came down to it, I would choose his life over mine in a heartbeat. He is a great King, despite what he says about himself. Nobody is perfect and it's okay to make mistakes. He makes them and tries to fix them. He cares about his people.
