The news came abruptly, putting Naruto on high alert.

It had been over a week since the meeting with the other jinchuuriki, all of whom had left to go back to their own villages, or stuck around close to the Akatsuki base in case something happened.

They didn’t have to wait long.

Tobi had brought along half the other Akatsuki with him back to that cave again in the hopes of annihilating the army before anything came from it. Tobi hadn’t engaged in battle when he first discovered the place because as powerful as he was, even Tobi wasn’t completely sure he would’ve been able to destroy them all without being overwhelmed himself.

Hence, Itachi, Pein, Konan, Kisame, and Tobi went together with a mission to destroy whatever scheme Zetsu had planned, and hopefully confront the plant-man that had been their comrade for a long time.

The moment they were met with an empty cave, everyone collectively understood that nothing good would come out of this development.

And so, everyone moved.

Naruto had immediately sprung into action, the crystal necklace hanging in his hands, listening to Konan speak.

“I’ve told the other members and some of our affiliate organizations to be on the lookout for any white Zetsu, and to report back to us on any unnatural concentration of chakra,” she said. “The others have also fanned out a large perimeter, let us know if you find anything too.” The voice cut off.

No one was happy about this betrayal, the energy of the group growing gloomier when it had been confirmed that Zetsu had never been on their side. Which now also served as fuel for every Akatsuki member’s motivation in this incident.

“I’ve told my siblings that they all have to be on their guard. Looks like every single one of their jinchuuriki are also readying themselves for battle.” Kurama rumbled into Naruto’s mind. “They’re all searching for any signs of it. That’s all I know for now.”

Thanks, Kurama. You’re the best. Naruto thought back, sweeping each room. As soon as the blonde found Sasuke, they’d also be going out to search too.

“Damn right I am.”

He finds Sasuke just outside the base, dismissing — was that a snake summon — an equally grim look on the other’s face.

Naruto lands right next to Sasuke, “Hey, are you done with whatever? The others are already gone.”

“Yeah, I just got some news about the sound village. How much area has everyone covered?” Sasuke followed Naruto the moment the blond took off.

“Konan and Pein are headed to our main base in Amegakure, Kisame and Itachi went with them, but they’re gonna stop in Takigakure. Fuu is there, but better safe than sorry. We can trust them to cover the areas they cross as well. Deidara and Sasori are headed to Suna because Gaara’s top priority is the village’s safety, so they’ll support him from a distance. I don’t know if they’ll make contact with each other though. Hidan and Kakuzu… well I think they’re going towards Kumo since it’s the closest country, but they tend to get sidetracked so I don’t know how well they’ll stay on the mission. Bee and Yugito are also watching out in that area so I think that’s fine,” Naruto chuckled to himself, thinking about all his friends’ eccentric natures. “Well everyone likes to do their own thing but they’re all strong, so I trust them. Utakata was in the Fire country last he checked in, Han and Roshi are somewhere near Iwa. Itachi and Kisame can head into Iwa if they ever need backup.”
